⚽ Sporting JAX Fans — Year One Is Only the Beginning!
Jacksonville waited nine years for top-level men’s soccer to come home. The inaugural USL Championship season was a hard education — and the First Coast showed up for every lesson. Lift every voice.
The Club
Sporting Club Jacksonville — Sporting JAX to everyone on the First Coast — is the newest name in the USL Championship, and its story starts long before a ball was kicked. A USL Championship club for Jacksonville was announced on August 30, 2022, led by venture capitalist Ricky Caplin and former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow, in partnership with Florida Elite Soccer Academy — rebranded as the Sporting JAX Soccer Academy to build a youth-to-pro pathway. Jaguars legend Fred Taylor joined the ownership group on November 30, 2023, with Tony Allegretti also a minority owner.
The name, crest and colors were unveiled on December 12, 2023, after a year of community listening sessions across the First Coast’s seven counties. The colors — two shades of blue with yellow, orange and white — were suggested by fans to mirror the sunshine, skies and waterways: the St. Johns River, the Intracoastal and the beaches. The crest, designed by Matthew Wolff, is a blue shield with JAX inside a blue roundel. The motto says everything: Lift Every Voice, from Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing, written by Jacksonville brothers James Weldon Johnson and John Rosamond Johnson.
Home is Hodges Stadium, on the University of North Florida campus, with a club-listed capacity of 9,400. It is a temporary home — plans exist for a 15,000-capacity soccer-specific stadium in the St. Johns Town Center area, with no confirmed opening date — but already a place of history: 10,357 fans filled it on March 7, 2026 for the first-ever league match, the return of top-level men’s pro soccer to Jacksonville for the first time since the Armada’s last season in 2017. Liam Fox, appointed November 4, 2025, is the first men’s head coach, under Sporting Director Mark Warburton, the former Rangers manager. Anyone searching the Sporting Club Jacksonville schedule is discovering a club at the very start of its story.

The Road to 2026: How Sporting JAX Was Born
There is no last season to recap here — the men’s team did not exist before 2026. What came before was the build. The franchise was announced in August 2022; a conditional USL Super League women’s franchise followed in May 2023; Fred Taylor came aboard that November, the name and crest that December, and Warburton arrived to run the soccer operation in March 2025. The inaugural home kit was unveiled with adidas at a Fan Fest at Friendship Fountain on May 13, 2025 — light blue, with adidas’ three stripes in bold orange across the shoulders.
The first Sporting JAX pro team to play was the women’s team, which kicked off its Super League season at Hodges Stadium in August 2025. The men’s launch then rushed into view: the March 2026 debut confirmed on October 30, 2025; Fox named head coach on November 4; and on December 15, the first two signings in men’s team history — defender Dida Armstrong, son of former USMNT defender and Hall of Famer Desmond Armstrong, and local midfielder Luc Granitur. A 24-man inaugural roster, assembled from scratch. Three and a half years of building, distilled into one March night when Jacksonville finally had its team.
Best Players Right Now
Kieran Sadlier — #10, attacking midfielder and left winger. The star of Year One. The Irishman is the club’s top scorer and creative hub with ten league goals, including three penalties, per stats trackers through October 21 — the most of any JAX player by a distance. He scored the club’s first-ever league brace on March 25 against Miami FC and the opener in the historic first win over Pittsburgh.
Emil Jääskeläinen — #16, striker. The Finnish forward, signed from St. Louis CITY2 after seven goals and eight assists in MLS NEXT Pro in 2025, delivered seven league goals and a team-high four assists. He is the focal point of the attack — even if his season will also be remembered for the 77th-minute own goal in the home finale against Louisville.
Wan Kuzain — #8, midfielder. The Malaysian international, formerly of Sporting Kansas City II and St. Louis City, scored four league goals — including two in the wild 5–2 home loss to Charleston and the equalizer in the 3–2 win at Birmingham. His experience and timing gave JAX a second scoring threat.
Rafferty Pedder — #19, midfielder. Three league goals, two already club folklore: the first-ever away league goal, an 84th-minute equalizer at Rhode Island on March 14, and the late leveller that rescued the famous 4–4 draw with San Antonio. A midfielder who arrives exactly when his team needs a hero.
Ahmad Al-Qaq — #11, attacking midfielder. The Palestinian international owns the most dramatic moment of the season: his stoppage-time header in the 94th minute beat Lexington SC 3–2 on September 5, the club’s last victory of its inaugural season and its most replayed highlight. He also scored at Indy in May and in the 2–2 Brooklyn draw in July — a big-moment player on the Sporting JAX roster.
Jake McGuire — #1, goalkeeper. The veteran USL shot-stopper, who arrived in the league’s top fifteen all-time for saves and shutouts, split time with Christian Olivares behind the league’s busiest defense. No JAX goalkeeper kept a league clean sheet in 2026 — a statistic about the team in front of them — and McGuire’s experience steadied a back line learning the hard way. Around this core sit Harvey Neville, former USL All-League selection Edgardo Rito, ex-Liverpool academy midfielder Jordan Rossiter and first signing Dida Armstrong.
Star Spotlight
The debut, and the long wait — March 7 to July 15, 2026. The first-ever league match drew 10,357 fans — and ended in a 3–0 loss to Hartford Athletic. Fifteen league matches without a win followed, the hardest possible introduction. The drought broke on July 15: Sporting JAX 2–1 Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, Sadlier scoring on 50 minutes and an own goal forced by JAX pressure overturning the opener — a first win, sealed against the reigning champions. Some first wins are worth the wait.
Sadlier’s one-man show in the 4–4 classic, May 27, 2026. The wildest night of Year One. JAX led San Antonio FC 3–0 inside 45 minutes — Jääskeläinen early, then two Sadlier penalties — conceded three times in eight second-half minutes, and rescued a point through Pedder in the 89th for a 4–4 draw. Chaos, flawed, unforgettable — and Sadlier’s brace made him the face of this attack.
Al-Qaq’s stoppage-time winner, September 5, 2026. Sadlier and Jääskeläinen twice put JAX ahead of Lexington at home; Lexington twice levelled. Then, in the 94th minute, Al-Qaq headed home the winner for 3–2 — the club’s last victory of Year One, and the moment Hodges Stadium will replay for years.

This Season (2026): A Hard Education
Honesty first: Sporting JAX finish 13th and last in the East with 14 points from 29 matches — three wins, five draws, twenty-one defeats, 32 scored and 76 conceded, the league’s leakiest defense. Eliminated well before the final weekend, without a single clean sheet all season, they closed the home slate with six straight defeats, the last a 2–0 loss to Louisville City on October 21 that stayed goalless for 77 minutes. In the USL Cup, JAX finished third in their group, a 2–0 win at Sarasota Paradise the highlight.
And yet nobody who lived it calls Year One a failure. A brand-new squad scored a respectable 32 goals, beat the reigning champions for its first win, produced a 4–4 classic and a 94th-minute winner, and drew 10,357 for its debut. The three wins — Pittsburgh, Birmingham, Lexington — are foundation stones. Every established club was once an expansion team learning brutal lessons. Jacksonville has learned them in public, with a 10,000-player academy behind it and a stadium district ahead. The Sporting Club Jacksonville schedule ends this weekend. The Sporting JAX story is only starting.

Saturday, October 24, 2026 — at Tampa Bay Rowdies, Al Lang Stadium, St. Petersburg, 7:30 p.m. ET. The final match of Sporting JAX’s inaugural season, against the newly crowned Players’ Shield winners. After this match, Sporting JAX’s 2026 season is over — the club is eliminated from playoff contention — but a first Florida derby win would be the perfect full stop on Year One.
2026 USL Championship Playoffs — the dates to watch. Sporting JAX are not in the playoffs, but the postseason they will aim for in 2027 runs as follows: Conference Quarterfinals October 30 – November 1, Conference Semifinals November 6–8, and Conference Finals November 13–15. The USL Championship Final is Saturday, November 21, 2026, at 12 p.m. ET on CBS. Tampa Bay host their quarterfinal on Friday, October 30 at Al Lang Stadium against Miami FC or Indy Eleven.
Already in the books — Sunday, October 4, 2026. Louisville City FC beat Hartford Athletic 1–0 in the Prinx Tires USL Cup Final at Trinity Health Stadium. Sporting JAX went out in the USL Cup group stage in their first year in the competition.
Biggest Rivalries — The Wars
1. Tampa Bay Rowdies — the Florida big brother. Sporting JAX are months old; Tampa Bay were founded in 1975. That gap is the rivalry. The established Florida power won every meeting in 2026: Evan Conway’s 95th-minute goal won the first-ever meeting 1–0 at Hodges Stadium on April 4, and Tampa Bay won 2–0 in Jacksonville in the USL Cup on June 6. The October 24 finale at Al Lang is JAX’s last chance this year to bloody the Shield winners’ nose.
2. Miami FC — the other Coastal Cup rival. The Coastal Cup, the historic all-Florida trophy, was contested in 2026 by Miami FC, Tampa Bay and Sporting JAX — and the table tells the Year One story: Miami nine points, Tampa Bay six, JAX zero. Miami beat JAX three times: 4–2 in the league on March 25 despite Sadlier’s brace, 1–0 in the USL Cup on April 25, and 4–1 at Pitbull Stadium on September 30. Four Florida derbies, four defeats. The first derby win, whenever it comes in 2027, will be a genuine milestone.
3. The rivalry still to come. Honestly framed: no third rivalry is established yet. Charleston Battery, the nearest other Eastern side, beat JAX 4–0 and 5–2 in 2026, but no rivalry name, trophy or fan culture exists yet for that or any other fixture. Rivalries are earned over years of late winners and playoff collisions. JAX have the geography and the ambition — the third war will name itself in time.
