The Club

The New Orleans Saints were founded in 1967 — the franchise was awarded on All Saints’ Day, November 1, 1966, and took its name from the jazz standard “When the Saints Go Marching In.” The Saints play at the Caesars Superdome, their home since 1975 and still one of the loudest buildings in American sports, in their famous black and gold. Ask any fan when the Saints play at home and they will tell you the Dome is less a stadium than a weekly Mardi Gras with a football game in the middle.

For decades the Saints were lovable losers — fans once wore paper bags and called them the “Aints.” Then came the defining chapter: after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city, the Saints’ return to the Superdome in 2006 — and Steve Gleason’s blocked punt against Atlanta — became a symbol of a city rising again. Four seasons later, Drew Brees led the Saints past the Indianapolis Colts 31–17 in Super Bowl XLIV to deliver the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy. Brees, Rickey Jackson, Willie Roaf, Marques Colston and Morten Andersen built the legend; a new generation is now chasing the second ring. If you are hunting for a Saints jersey before kickoff or checking the Saints schedule for your next trip to the Dome, you are in the right place — Saints tickets for big divisional games disappear fast.

Last Season (2025): The Takeover

The 2025 season finished 6–11, but the record hides the story. It was head coach Kellen Moore’s first year, beginning weeks after veteran quarterback Derek Carr’s surprise retirement. Spencer Rattler opened the season as the starter and battled to a 1–7 mark before Moore handed the offense to second-round rookie Tyler Shough. The kid changed everything: Shough went 5–4 in nine starts, drove a four-game win streak, and helped New Orleans win four of its final five. By January, there was no debate — the Saints had found their quarterback, and a fanbase starved for the post-Brees era finally had its next face.

Best Players Right Now (2026 Roster)

Tyler Shough, QB (#6) — The second-year starter and the centerpiece of the rebuild. A 6-foot-5 playmaker who took the long road through three college programs, Shough now runs Moore’s offense with total command.

Alvin Kamara, RB (#41) — Still the smoothest dual-threat back in football. A decade into his career, Kamara remains the Saints’ safety valve, screen-game king and red-zone closer.

Chris Olave, WR (#12) — The route-running technician. Olave is Shough’s go-to target on money downs and one of the NFL’s smoothest separators.

Travis Etienne Jr., RB (#3) — The Louisiana native came home on a four-year deal and gives Moore a second home-run hitter in the backfield. Returning from injured reserve just in time for the Paris trip.

Juwan Johnson, TE (#83) — The converted wide receiver has grown into a reliable chain-mover and red-zone target over the middle.

Cameron Jordan, DE (#94) — The franchise icon, still setting the edge in his 16th season. Jordan is the living bridge between the Brees era and this one.

Chase Young, DE (#99) — The former No. 2 overall pick brings the heat off the opposite edge and leads a pass rush that has to carry a young secondary.

Justin Reid, S (#21) — A Super Bowl champion with Kansas City, Reid quarterbacks the back end of Brandon Staley’s defense and never stops talking — or hitting.

Head coach: Kellen Moore — The former Cowboys and Eagles play-caller, in year two of building the Saints in his image: fast, aggressive and quarterback-driven.

Star Spotlight: Stories You Should Know

The quarterback who refused to hurry. Tyler Shough played seven years of college football across Oregon, Texas Tech and Louisville and was 25 when the Saints drafted him — older than a dozen starting NFL quarterbacks. Critics called it a flaw. Drew Brees, inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2026, calls it his superpower, and has personally mentored Shough since draft day. “He’s in an unbelievable situation,” Brees said. Shough’s 5–4 finish as a rookie is starting to prove the legend right.

Etienne’s full circle. Travis Etienne Jr. grew up in Jennings, Louisiana, a town of 10,000, dreaming in black and gold. He wore No. 9 in college as a tribute to Drew Brees — and named his son Saint. After starring for Clemson and Jacksonville, he signed a four-year, $48 million deal to come home in 2026, choosing No. 3 because New Orleans is his third team. “It took me a long time to figure out this is where I needed to be all along,” he said.

One more march for Cam. Cameron Jordan has played his entire career in New Orleans — through the Brees twilight, the wilderness years and now the rebuild. At 37, the eight-time Pro Bowler is chasing one more deep January run, and every sack celebration in the Dome feels like a love letter between a player and a city that never gave up on each other.

This Season (2026): Building Something Real

The Saints sit at 2–4 through Week 7 — but this is a team whose arrow points up. The wins were statements: a 24–17 road upset of the Baltimore Ravens and a wild 34–27 shootout win at the New York Giants. The losses have mostly been one-score heartbreakers, including a 31–30 overtime defeat at Detroit to open the season. In the NFC South, the Carolina Panthers (3–2) hold a slim early lead, with Atlanta and New Orleans level at 2–4 — the division is absolutely still there for the taking. With Etienne back from injured reserve and first-round receiver Jordyn Tyson returning too, Shough is about to get his full arsenal for the season’s defining stretch. When the Saints play their best ball, nobody in the NFC wants to see them in January.

Mark Your Calendar: Upcoming Games to Watch

The Saints schedule is loaded with storylines down the stretch — circle these dates and sort your Saints tickets early:

  • Sunday, October 25 — vs Pittsburgh Steelers (Stade de France, Paris): The Saints take the Who Dat Nation international. A “home” game in Paris, in front of a wall of black and gold in France — a bucket-list Sunday.
  • Sunday, November 15 — vs Carolina Panthers (Caesars Superdome): The division leaders come to the Dome. Win this, and the NFC South race flips on its head.
  • Sunday, December 6 — vs Green Bay Packers (Caesars Superdome): A heavyweight NFC clash under the Dome lights with serious playoff implications.
  • Sunday, December 20 — at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Hate week in the NFC South. The Saints’ nastiest road trip of the year, with the division likely on the line.
  • Sunday, January 3, 2027 — at Atlanta Falcons: The regular-season finale against the oldest enemy. There is no better way to start a new year.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars

1. Atlanta Falcons. The South’s oldest grudge, dating to the late 1960s. Two fanbases that genuinely cannot stand losing to each other — the 2006 Dome reopening game and decades of last-second finishes made this the Saints’ defining rivalry.

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A division war built on bad blood: Marshon Lattimore vs Mike Evans fights, playoff collisions including the 2020 divisional round — Brees vs Brady, in the Dome — and pure NFC South spite.

3. Carolina Panthers. The newer South rivalry, sharpened every year the division runs through Charlotte. Physical, close and increasingly personal.

4. Dallas Cowboys. A regional bragging-rights fight between Louisiana and Texas fanbases who share a border and nothing else. The Dome gets extra loud when America’s Team visits.
