⚽ Houston Dynamo 2 Fans — Your Record-Breakers Refuse to Go Quietly!
Dynamo Dos just posted the best regular season in club history — a record 52 points, an 11-match unbeaten start built on the road, and a playoff comeback for the ages at Shell Energy Stadium. Orange shirts, full voice — this is the season to wear the Space City colors.
The Club
Houston Dynamo 2 — Dynamo Dos to everyone in orange — is the reserve team of MLS club Houston Dynamo FC. Houston were named one of the 21 inaugural MLS NEXT Pro clubs on December 6, 2021, and the side began play in the league’s first season, 2022. They play in the Western Conference’s Frontier Division, in the third tier of the U.S. soccer pyramid, and home is SaberCats Stadium in Houston, Texas — the rugby-built ground Dos share with the Houston SaberCats. The identity is the parent club’s own: orange, black and Space City Blue. Forever Orange. Hold It Down.
Here is the honest part, because Dos fans deserve honesty: this club has never won a trophy. Four playoff trips — 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2026 — and still not a single playoff win, with the best finish a Conference Semifinal run in that inaugural 2022 season. That sounds like a punchline until you watch how close this young team keeps getting, and how loudly the city is starting to believe the breakthrough is a matter of time.
The dugout changed hands mid-season. Marcelo Santos, head coach since January 2025, moved up to a first-team assistant role in early 2026, and on July 14, 2026 the club promoted Jeremy Hurdle to full-time head coach — the third head coach in team history. Hurdle is an organization man: he joined in May 2022 as an academy coach, became a Dynamo 2 assistant in 2025, and twice ran the team as interim before getting the job for real. He inherited the youngest project in the league and turned it into a record-breaker.
And then there is the shirt. Ask anyone searching for the Houston Dynamo 2 jersey in 2026 and they will describe the same thing: a plain orange adidas shirt — no pattern, no chest sponsor, just orange — with a sky-blue V-neck collar, sky-blue adidas stripes across the shoulders and the black hexagonal Dynamo 2 crest with its orange HD monogram on the left chest. Clean, loud, unmistakably Houston. On a team full of teenagers playing like veterans, it has become the uniform of the best season in club history.

Last Season (2025): The Youngest Team in the League
There is leaning into youth, and then there is what Houston did in 2025. Dynamo 2 fielded the youngest roster in MLS NEXT Pro — average age 18.9 — and the results told the story of a team learning on the job: 11th in the Western Conference, 21st overall, with 9 wins, 6 draws and 13 losses, 40 goals scored and 47 conceded for 37 points. The playoffs were missed, and nobody at the club pretended otherwise.
But look at what the season was actually for. Thirteen academy players made their professional debuts in 2025, and four of them scored their first professional goals. Stephen Annor Gyamfi led the team with 6 goals, head coach Marcelo Santos trusted teenagers in real minutes all year, and the kids who took their lumps in 2025 became the core that exploded in 2026. The youngest team in the league was never the point. It was the investment.
Best Players Right Now
Austin Brummett — #7, forward. The star of this team and its top scorer: 13 goals and an assist in 25 matches in 2026. The 22-year-old was a 2026 MLS SuperDraft pick out of UConn, signed in the offseason, and he tormented Sporting KC II all year — two separate braces against them, including one on Decision Day that sealed his place as the club’s leading scorer, tied among the league’s top marksmen. By late September he had appeared on the Houston Dynamo FC first-team roster. The reserve team’s best player earned the parent club’s attention the only way that counts: goals.
Gilberto Rivera — #6, midfielder. The quarterfinal hero. A 2026 SuperDraft signing out of San Jose State who commands the midfield for Hurdle’s side, Rivera saved his signature night for the playoffs: down 0–2 to LAFC 2, he scored twice in five minutes — a strike from distance, then a rebound after his own saved penalty — for his first-career MLS NEXT Pro brace. He also assisted Brummett on Decision Day, and by the end of the season he too had appeared on the first-team roster.
Pedro Cruz — #1, goalkeeper. The Brazilian is a genuine cult figure: the 2025 MLS All-Star Goalie Wars champion, selected again for the 2026 edition at the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge in Charlotte. In the quarterfinal he made three saves — including a one-on-one stop in the 5th minute — and then saved LAFC 2’s second shootout attempt to keep Houston’s dream alive a little longer. A reserve-team goalkeeper with a national showcase trophy is a rare thing; Houston has one.
Arthur Sousa — forward. The Brazilian, on loan from Red Bull Bragantino, scored Houston’s goal in the April Texas Showdown at Austin and gave Dos a direct, physical edge up front all season — his shootout attempt in the quarterfinal was the one that finally ended the run.
Samir Mohammad — winger. The wide man who set up Rivera’s first quarterfinal goal, part of the young attacking rotation that made Houston so hard to predict in the final third.
Mattheo Dimareli — #33, winger. A 2009-born academy product who appeared on the first-team roster as a homegrown by September 2026 — the clearest possible proof that the Dos pathway is working exactly as designed.
Star Spotlight
October 18, 2026 — the brace, the comeback, the same old ending. Houston’s first home playoff match as the No. 4 seed was moved downtown to Shell Energy Stadium, and for an hour it was going wrong: LAFC 2 led 2–0 through Jude Terry and Marius Aiyenero. Then Gilberto Rivera took over — a left-footed strike from distance on 69 minutes, and five minutes later the equalizer, pouncing on the rebound after his own penalty, won by a foul on Brummett, was saved. Extra time solved nothing. Pedro Cruz saved a shootout attempt, but LAFC 2’s Ethan Scally denied Rivera and Arthur Sousa, and the shootout ended 4–3. Four playoff trips, still no playoff win — but nobody who watched that comeback will call this team a punchline again.
The 11-match unbeaten start — built on the road. Houston opened 2026 with a club-record 11-match unbeaten streak: 31 points, 28 goals scored, and a league-best four open-play goals conceded in that span. They did it the hardest way possible — a league-record 10-match road trip from March to July, because DR Congo used SaberCats Stadium during the FIFA World Cup. Add a team-record nine-match unbeaten home streak and a 20-match scoring streak that survived until August 14, and you have the foundation of a record-breaking season.
September 20, 2026 — a record-breaking Decision Day. Even in a wild 3–2 home defeat to Sporting Kansas City II — ten-man Houston after a late red card — the landmarks landed. The season closed on 52 points, a single-season club record passing the 49 from 2022, and 14 wins, tying the club record from that same inaugural season. Brummett’s brace took him to 13 goals. The No. 4 seed was theirs, and with it a fourth playoff trip.

This Season (2026): The Best Season in Club History
The numbers first, because they are records. Houston Dynamo 2 finished 4th in the Western Conference as the No. 4 seed: 28 played, 14 wins, 6 draws, 8 losses, 52 goals scored and 32 conceded for a +20 goal difference. The 52 points are a single-season club record, passing the 49 from the inaugural 2022 campaign, and the 14 wins tied the club record from that same season. A year after the youngest roster in the league missed the playoffs entirely, the kids grew up in public.
The shape of the season was two stories. The first was glorious: an 11-match unbeaten streak to open the year, built across a league-record 10-match road trip while the World Cup took over their stadium. The second was grittier: only five wins in the final 17 matches, a playoff berth not mathematically confirmed until August 23 — banked by a shootout win at St. Louis CITY2 — and a top-heavy finish with back-to-back home defeats to Minnesota and Austin before a wild Decision Day loss to Sporting KC II. Dos limped to the line on the standings sheet and still arrived as the No. 4 seed with a home quarterfinal.
What happened on October 18 at Shell Energy Stadium is in the Spotlight above: 0–2 down, Rivera’s brace, extra time, and a 4–3 shootout defeat to the No. 6 seed — the West’s only quarterfinal upset. The season is over, and the first playoff win is still out there. But a club-record 52 points, a top scorer who reached the first team, and a comeback that shook a downtown stadium say the wait will not be much longer. This is what a pathway club looks like when the pathway starts delivering all at once.

The other West semifinal sends Ventura County FC to Portland Timbers2 the same night.
October 30 – November 1, 2026 — Conference Finals. One match in each conference, hosted by the higher remaining seed. The winners move on to the fifth MLS NEXT Pro Cup in league history.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars
1. Austin FC II — the Texas Showdown. Houston’s own club bills the all-Texas clash as the Texas Showdown, and 2026 delivered. On April 12 at Parmer Field, Arthur Sousa put Houston ahead in the 61st minute, Jorge Alastuey equalized from a stoppage-time penalty, and Houston took the shootout point on the champions’ own turf. The last word of the season went the other way: on September 4, Austin — the league’s regular-season champions, 1st in the West on 65 points — won 2–0 in Houston, on the night academy midfielder Chris Gonzalez made his professional debut for Dos. Austin took the state this year. Houston, 4th on 52 points, took the records — and the rematch is already circled.
2. North Texas SC — the other Texas war. FC Dallas’s reserve side in Mansfield is Houston’s second in-state obsession, and the 2026 series closed with a September double-header at Texas Health Mansfield Stadium: a 3–2 Houston win on September 9, then a 0–0 draw four days later that North Texas took on the shootout, 4–3. Houston had already beaten North Texas 2–0 at home earlier in the season. Three meetings a year, every one of them chippy, none of them friendly.
3. St. Louis CITY2 — the Frontier Division measuring stick. The Frontier Division’s other heavyweight, and the team Houston had to go through to end a playoff drought. Dos won 2–1 at CITY2 on July 11, then returned on August 23 and drew 2–2 — winning the shootout to bank the two points that mathematically confirmed their postseason place. CITY2 finished 7th in the West; Houston took the season’s bragging rights and the playoff spot that went with them.
And a new name joined the enemies list on October 18, 2026: LAFC 2, whose shootout win at Shell Energy Stadium made them the villains of Houston’s best-ever season. Dos still lead the all-time series between the clubs — but that night belongs to Los Angeles, and Houston will not forget it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does Houston Dynamo 2 play?
SaberCats Stadium in Houston, Texas — the club’s home since its 2022 debut. Two 2026 quirks worth knowing: the team spent March to July on a league-record 10-match road trip while DR Congo used the stadium during the FIFA World Cup, and its October 18, 2026 playoff quarterfinal was staged downtown at Shell Energy Stadium, the first team’s home.
Who is Houston Dynamo 2’s best player?
Forward Austin Brummett (No. 7). The 2026 MLS SuperDraft pick out of UConn led the team with 13 goals — including two braces against Sporting KC II — and earned a place on the first-team roster by the end of the season. Right behind him: midfielder Gilberto Rivera (No. 6), whose two-goal comeback forced extra time in the playoff quarterfinal, and goalkeeper Pedro Cruz (No. 1), the 2025 MLS All-Star Goalie Wars champion.
What trophies has Houston Dynamo 2 won?
None yet — honestly. Dynamo Dos have reached the playoffs four times (2022, 2023, 2024, 2026) with a best finish of the Conference Semifinals in 2022, and are still waiting for the first playoff win in club history. The 2026 side did set the club’s single-season records for points (52) and tied its wins record (14).
How can I get tickets or watch Houston Dynamo 2?
