The Club

The Atlanta Braves are baseball’s model franchise — and its oldest. Founded in 1871 in Boston, then Milwaukee from 1953 to 1965, and Atlanta ever since 1966, the Braves play at Truist Park in navy and red, and they own four World Series titles — 1914, 1957, 1995 and 2021. This is the franchise of Hank Aaron, of 14 straight division titles, of the Tomahawk Chop echoing through October. And after the embarrassment of 2025, the 2026 Braves reminded everyone why Atlanta expects to play deep into the fall.

Last Season (2026): Wire to Wire

94-68 — first in the NL East, the division’s No. 3 seed, and one of the great bounce-backs in recent National League memory. A year after going 76-86, finishing fourth and missing the postseason for the first time since 2019, Atlanta hired Walt Weiss as manager and never looked back: the Braves moved into first place on April 8 and never gave it up, reached 45-21 in June, and clinched their seventh NL East crown in nine years on September 20 with a 4-2 win in Houston — Mike Yastrzemski’s three-run homer in the sixth, Dylan Dodd striking out the side in the ninth. October brought a familiar foe: the Phillies in the Wild Card Series. Austin Riley’s three-run homer in the eighth won Game 1, 5-3; after dropping Game 2, Atlanta took the decider 6-2. Then came the wall — the Dodgers in the NLDS. The Braves stole Game 2 in Los Angeles, 3-2, but dropped both games at Truist Park, falling 3-1 when Andy Pages’ bases-loaded single in the seventh inning of Game 4 broke a 1-1 tie. The cruelest stat of the series: Atlanta drew 18 walks in four games and didn’t score a single one of those runners.

Best Players Right Now (2027 Roster)

Ronald Acuña Jr., 28, Right Field (#13) — The superstar. Multiple injured-list stints tested him in 2026, but when Acuña is on the field he’s still the most electric player in the National League — power, speed and swagger in equal measure.

Austin Riley, 29, Third Base (#27) — The October hero. His three-run homer in the eighth inning of Wild Card Game 1 against Philadelphia was the swing of Atlanta’s postseason, and he’s the lineup’s most reliable run producer.

Matt Olson, 32, First Base (#28) — The power anchor. One of the game’s premier sluggers, and the steady middle-of-the-order presence every contender needs.

Ozzie Albies, 29, Second Base (#1) — The heartbeat. A switch-hitting All-Star whose energy sets the tone, and half of one of baseball’s best double-play combinations.

Michael Harris II, 25, Center Field (#23) — The spark. His first-pitch single, stolen base and run scored in NLDS Game 4 showed exactly what he brings: game-changing speed and Gold Glove defense.

Sean Murphy, 31, Catcher (#12) — The backstop. Handles a deep staff with ease and provides thump from behind the plate.

Drake Baldwin, 25, Catcher/DH (#30) — The breakout bat. Forced his way into the lineup and projects as the everyday designated hitter in 2027.

Mike Yastrzemski, 36, Left Field (#18) — The veteran moment-maker. His three-run homer clinched the division in Houston — a lifelong Giant delivering for Atlanta when it mattered most.

Spencer Strider, 27, Starting Pitcher (#99) — The ace stuff. Mustache, glasses, triple-digit heat — when healthy, he’s as dominant as anyone in the sport.

Chris Sale, 37, Starting Pitcher (#51) — The veteran lion. The former Cy Young winner remains the rotation’s tone-setter and October-tested leader.

Spencer Schwellenbach, 26, Starting Pitcher (#56) — The riser. Took a major step forward in 2026 and looks like a frontline starter for years.

Raisel Iglesias, 36, Closer (#26) — The lockdown artist. Still slamming the door in the ninth, and the calm at the center of every close game.

Manager: Walt Weiss — Second season. The first-year skipper took a 76-win team and won 94 games and a division title, restoring the clubhouse belief from day one.

Star Spotlight: Stories You Should Know

Wire to wire: the Weiss turnaround. April 8, 2026: the Braves took first place in the NL East. They never gave it back — not in May, not through the summer injuries, not ever. After the 76-86 debacle of 2025 snapped seven straight playoff appearances, first-year manager Walt Weiss simply restored the standard: compete every night, trust the roster, win the division. Eighteen more wins, a seventh NL East crown in nine years, and the eighth postseason trip in nine seasons.

Riley and Yaz deliver the October moments. Postseasons are remembered in swings. Austin Riley’s three-run homer in the eighth inning of Wild Card Game 1 turned a tense night against the Phillies into a 5-3 statement win. And three weeks earlier, it was Mike Yastrzemski — the veteran newcomer — whose three-run blast in the sixth inning in Houston clinched the division. Stars make October; in 2026, Atlanta’s stars showed up.

Acuña: the superstar who wouldn’t stay down. Ronald Acuña Jr. spent multiple stints on the injured list in 2026, and every absence was felt — he’s the engine of the lineup and the face of the franchise. But the Braves kept winning anyway, which might be the most encouraging sign of all: this team no longer lives or dies on one player. A full, healthy season from Acuña in 2027, paired with this roster, is a terrifying thought for the rest of the National League.

Next Season (2027): Finish the Job

The core is back, the manager is proven, and the division is theirs to defend. The lineup — Acuña, Riley, Olson, Albies, Harris — remains one of the deepest in baseball, and the rotation has frontline talent at the top with real depth behind it. The winter questions are familiar ones: shortstop, where Mauricio Dubón and Ha-Seong Kim head to free agency and a steady veteran like J.P. Crawford would fit the Braves’ brand perfectly; and the bullpen bridge to Iglesias. The 2027 season opens with a brutal test — at Dodger Stadium on March 25, the earliest Opening Day in MLB history, against the team that just ended Atlanta’s October. One cloud hangs over everything: the collective bargaining agreement expires on December 1, and the sport is bracing for a possible lockout. If baseball starts on time, the Braves open 2027 exactly where they belong — expecting to win the East and this time finish the job in October.

Mark Your Calendar: Upcoming Games to Watch

Wondering when the Braves play? The Braves schedule for 2027 is out — and it opens with a heavyweight fight. Grab your Braves tickets early for these:

  • March 25 — at Los Angeles Dodgers (Opening Day, Dodger Stadium): The earliest Opening Day in MLB history, and it’s an NLDS rematch. The Braves open against the team chasing a third straight title — instant October atmosphere in March.
  • April 2 — vs Houston Astros (home opener, Truist Park): The first game at Truist Park in 2027, against the club Atlanta beat for the 2021 championship. The Chop will be deafening.
  • April 30-May 2 — vs New York Mets (Truist Park): The first Mets series of the year. The rivalry never needs a reason, but an early tone-setter in the division race doesn’t hurt.
  • May 18-20 — vs Boston Red Sox (Truist Park): A rare interleague treat — the Braves face Boston twice in 2027, starting with three at home.
  • June 18-20 — vs New York Yankees (Truist Park, Father’s Day weekend): The Yankees come to Atlanta for a holiday weekend series. Star power everywhere you look.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars

1. New York Mets — THE NL East war. The division’s defining feud for a generation. Every Mets series at Truist Park feels like October, and the Braves’ road to another crown goes through Queens.

2. Philadelphia Phillies — the fresh blood feud. The 2026 Wild Card Series went the full three games — Riley’s Game 1 heroics, a Game 2 gut-punch, and a 6-2 decider. This one is personal now.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers — the October wall. They’ve ended Atlanta’s season and now chase a third straight World Series. The Braves open 2027 in their building. Enough said.

4. Washington Nationals — the geographic grind. Six meetings a year with the neighbors up I-85, and Atlanta closes the 2027 home schedule against them September 21-23. Division games in September are never just games.
