The Club

The New York Jets began life in 1960 as the Titans of New York in the old AFL, became the Jets in 1963, and produced the single most important upset in football history: Super Bowl III, January 12, 1969, when Joe Namath guaranteed victory over the mighty Baltimore Colts and delivered it, 16-7. The Jets play at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey — shared with the Giants, owned on Sundays by Gang Green. The colors are green and white, the legends are Namath, Don Maynard, Curtis Martin, Darrelle Revis and the New York Sack Exchange. The hard part? That Super Bowl III triumph remains the franchise’s only title game, and the Jets own the NFL’s longest active playoff drought, dating to the 2010 season. When the Jets play well, New York shakes; Jets tickets are an act of faith, the Jets schedule an annual renewal of hope, and a New York Jets jersey is worn like a promise.

Last Season (2025): Rock Bottom

There is no sugarcoating 2025: 3-14, last place in the AFC East, and a 15th straight season without the playoffs in Aaron Glenn’s debut as head coach. The Justin Fields experiment failed — nine starts, a 2-7 record, a benching, and an eventual trade to Kansas City. The defense, Glenn’s specialty, somehow got worse after Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner were traded away midseason: 503 points allowed, and a place in infamy as the first team in NFL history to go an entire season without recording a single interception. Glenn refused to point fingers: “I put the fault on me — I didn’t do enough to put him in a position to be successful.” The teardown was painful and total. It also armed the Jets with draft picks, cap room and a very clear plan for 2026.

Best Players Right Now (2026 Roster)

Geno Smith, QB (#7) — The starter, full stop: “No doubt about it, he’s our guy,” says Glenn. The former Jet, Seahawk and Raider is back where his career began (see the spotlight below).

Garrett Wilson, WR (#5) — The franchise’s offensive superstar. The 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year opened his career with three straight 1,000-yard seasons despite a revolving door at quarterback — now he finally has a veteran throwing to him.

Breece Hall, RB (#20) — The home-run hitter. One crease, one cut, and Hall is gone — the engine that lets the Jets control games.

Adonai Mitchell, WR (#15) — The big target opposite Wilson, stretching the field and winning in the red zone.

Mason Taylor, TE (#85) — The second-year tight end (and son of Hall of Famer Jason Taylor) becoming a weekly factor over the middle.

Will McDonald IV, EDGE (#9) — The pass rush’s centerpiece, bending the edge on a defense built to hunt again.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, S (#29) — The three-time All-Pro ball hawk signed to fix the most embarrassing stat in franchise history (more below).

Demario Davis, LB (#56) — The 37-year-old defensive quarterback, back with the team that drafted him in 2012, setting the standard in the middle.

Head coach: Aaron Glenn — The former Jets Pro Bowl cornerback, in year two of the hardest rebuild in football — and doing it with the defense-first identity he played with.

Star Spotlight: Stories You Should Know

Geno comes home. The Jets drafted Geno Smith in 2013 and gave up on him by 2017. He rebuilt himself in Seattle into a Pro Bowler and the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year, endured a brutal 2025 in Las Vegas (a league-high 17 interceptions), and then — on March 10, 2026 — the Jets traded for him, with the Raiders paying most of his salary just to move on. Glenn didn’t hedge for a second: “No doubt about it, he’s our guy.” A quarterback drafted by the Jets, discarded by the Jets, now leading the Jets at 35. You cannot script it better.

The interception that never came. In 2025 the Jets played 17 games without a single interception — the first team to do that since the league started recording the stat in 1933. It became a national punchline. So the front office went and got Minkah Fitzpatrick, one of the great ball hawks of his generation, and rebuilt the secondary around him. Every 2026 takeaway is now celebrated at MetLife like a touchdown.

The drought, and the faithful. Fifteen seasons without the playoffs is the longest active drought in the NFL — and yet they come. In 2026 the Jets don’t play a single primetime game, the first time that has happened since 1981, and all eight home games kick off at 1 p.m. on Sundays. Old-school football, an old-school crowd, and a fan base that has turned suffering into identity.

This Season (2026): 2-4, and Closer Than It Looks

At 2-4, the record says rebuild; the film says something better is brewing. The Jets lost 20-17 to Green Bay and 31-24 at Detroit — one-score games against playoff teams — before a flat afternoon in Chicago reminded everyone how far there is to go. Smith has steadied the offense, Wilson remains a star, and a defense that was a punchline in January has its bite back. The AFC East still runs through Buffalo (5-1) and a resurgent New England (4-2), but the schedule offers a doorway: Miami twice in the next five weeks, starting Sunday at MetLife. Win those, and the second half of the season gets very interesting.

Mark Your Calendar: Upcoming Games to Watch

The Jets schedule is all 1 p.m. Sundays and all business. Get your Jets tickets for these:

  • October 25 — vs Miami Dolphins: The blood feud, at MetLife, with the season at a crossroads. Win, and the wild-card math changes overnight.
  • November 8 — at Kansas City Chiefs: Geno against the champs at Arrowhead — and Justin Fields, the quarterback the Jets moved on from, now wears Chiefs colors on the opposite sideline.
  • November 15 — vs Buffalo Bills: The division kings come to town. The loudest measuring stick on the home schedule.
  • December 13 — vs Denver Broncos: One of the AFC’s best defenses visits MetLife for a December slugfest.
  • December 27 — vs New England Patriots: The hated Patriots, at home, on holiday weekend. Enough said.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars

1. New England Patriots. Bill Belichick resigned as Jets head coach after one day in 2000 — scrawled on a napkin — then built a dynasty in Foxborough and tormented the Jets for two decades, Spygate included. Nothing else is close.

2. Miami Dolphins. An AFL blood feud from the 1960s that gave us the Monday Night Miracle in 2000, when the Jets came back from 30-7 down in the fourth quarter. Twice a year, forever.

3. Buffalo Bills. Division neighbors separated by snow, spite and one state’s bragging rights — the upstate-downstate war that closes every season.

4. New York Giants. The roommate rivalry. They share a stadium, a city and nothing else — MetLife belongs to one of them every August and every fourth regular season.
