🏐 LOVB Houston Fans — Your Space City Takeover Is Waiting!
The best team of the 2026 regular season plays in Space City. Jordan Thompson just authored the most dominant scoring season in league history, the MVP trophy lives in Houston, and only a 19-17 golden set kept this team out of the final. The chase for the Tiffany Trophy starts December 16 — wear the sky blue and be part of it.
The Club
LOVB Houston is Space City’s pro volleyball team — and one of the founding clubs of League One Volleyball. Houston and Atlanta were revealed in March 2023 as the league’s first two team locations, and the first two player signings in LOVB history were Houstonians: setter Micha Hancock and opposite Jordan Thompson, the club’s Founding Athletes. Home is a split Texas schedule between the Fort Bend Epicenter in Rosenberg and the Berry Center in Cypress, two big, loud buildings that hosted Houston home dates across both of the club’s first two seasons. In 2026 the team was acquired by a Houston Texans affiliate, Lone Star Sports & Entertainment, which launched a fan-driven vote for the club’s first nickname. Last Season (2026): Regular-Season Champions, Golden-Set Heartbreak
Houston did not just win the 2026 regular season — Houston owned it. The club went 13-7 for 39 points and first place, clinching the regular-season championship on the final weekend, April 4, 2026 against Atlanta, when Jordan Thompson tied her own league records with 32 points and 31 kills. Then Houston swept the league’s top honors: MVP and Opposite Hitter of the Year — Thompson; Middle Blocker of the Year — Amber Igiede; Setter of the Year — Kaisa Alanko; Coach of the Year — Sanja Tomašević, with Micha Hancock finishing as the league’s ace leader. The playoff run ended in the cruelest way the sport offers: Houston beat No. 4 Salt Lake 3-2 in the semifinal’s first leg on April 10, lost the second leg 0-3 two days later, and fell 19-17 in the winner-take-all golden set — the No. 1 seed eliminated one set short of the final. The season before, Houston finished second at 10-6 and won the inaugural LOVB Classic. The regular-season crown is in the cabinet. The Tiffany Trophy is still the one that got away.
Best Players Right Now (2026 Roster)
Jordan Thompson, Opposite Hitter (#23) — The 2026 LOVB Most Valuable Player and Opposite Hitter of the Year. Her 455 points and 423 kills are both league records, and she is the face of the franchise — a two-time Olympic medalist and one of the league’s two original signings.
Micha Hancock, Setter (#12) — The other Founding Athlete. The Olympic champion setter has run Houston’s offense since the first match in club history, and her topspin jump serve made her the league’s ace leader in 2026.
Justine Wong-Orantes, Libero (#4) — The defensive anchor. Tokyo 2020’s Best Libero and a two-time Olympic medalist, she gives Houston a gold-medal back row and some of the cleanest first contacts in the league.
Amber Igiede, Middle Blocker (#3) — The 2026 LOVB Middle Blocker of the Year, a .461 hitter who also starred in Houston’s 2025 LOVB Classic title run. The wall at the center of the net.
Kaisa Alanko, Setter (#8) — The 2026 LOVB Setter of the Year, who ran the league’s best offense and dealt 54 assists in the April 4 title clincher against Atlanta.
Jess Mruzik, Outside Hitter (#19) — The Team USA outside hitter who has been a primary scorer in both of Houston’s seasons, balancing the attack opposite Thompson.
Madi (Kingdon) Rishel, Outside Hitter (#9) — The veteran six-rotation outside whose floor game steadies the lineup — her 21 digs in a January 2025 win at Austin still tell the story.
Karin Palgutová, Outside Hitter (#2) — The Slovak national-team outside, a reliable scoring option on the left side across the title season.
Head coach: Sanja Tomašević — The 2026 LOVB Coach of the Year, who succeeded Olympic-gold coach Massimo Barbolini after the inaugural season and turned Houston into the league’s regular-season standard.
Star Spotlight: Stories You Should Know
455 and 423: the season the record book broke. Jordan Thompson did not have a great season in 2026 — she had the season every future LOVB star will be measured against. A league-record 455 points (6.15 per set) and a league-record 423 kills (5.72 per set) on a .362 attack efficiency, with 13 aces. She scored 30 or more points in four different matches, set the single-match record with 32 points on March 11, and on March 25 became the first player in league history to reach 400 points in a season. There is no debate about whose league this was.
Thirty-two, when the title was on the line. On April 4, 2026, with the regular-season championship there to be clinched against Atlanta, Thompson simply took the match over — 32 points and 31 kills, tying her own league records, while Kaisa Alanko dealt 54 assists. It was the performance of a superstar who understood exactly what the night required, and it put the regular-season trophy in Houston hands.
The Founding Athlete. Before LOVB had played a single rally, the league made its first two signings: Micha Hancock and Jordan Thompson, both for Houston. Thompson — gold medalist at Tokyo 2020, silver medalist at Paris 2024 — was the statement that this league meant business. Two seasons on, she is the MVP, the record holder and the reason every team in the league builds its game plan around stopping No. 23. Nobody has managed it yet when it matters most.

This Season (2026-27): The Trophy Chase
Season three will not wait long. LOVB launches 2026-27 with the First Serve showcase on Wednesday, December 16, 2026, at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, staged alongside NCAA Championship Week — the confirmed showcase match is Nebraska vs Austin, with Houston’s own opener still to be announced. The league grows to ten teams in two conferences, and Houston plays in the Western Conference alongside Austin, Salt Lake and expansion sides Los Angeles Orbit and San Francisco Signal. The core is intact: Thompson, Hancock, Wong-Orantes, Igiede, Mruzik and Palgutová all return, joined by newcomers Isabel Martin, Erika Pritchard, Nasya Dimitrova, Svitlana Dorsman, Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Gillian Grimes — four Olympians and nine current or former national-team members on one roster. The hard part is real, too: Setter of the Year Kaisa Alanko headlines a long departure list, and Houston must rebuild its depth. The mission, though, is simple — turn a regular-season crown into the club’s first Finals title.
Mark Your Calendar: The Road Ahead
Circle the date ahead, Houston fans — and relive the 2026 nights that made this team regular-season champions before the trophy chase resumes:
- December 16, 2026 — LOVB First Serve, Frost Bank Center, San Antonio: Season three launches during NCAA Championship Week with the Nebraska vs Austin showcase; Houston’s opener and the full 2026-27 schedule are still to come.

- Relive it — March 25, 2026, vs Salt Lake, Fort Bend Epicenter: A 3-0 sweep — Houston’s seventh of the season — and the night Thompson became the first player in league history to 400 points in a season.
- Relive it — April 10-12, 2026, the playoff semifinal vs Salt Lake, Louisville: A 3-2 first-leg win, a 0-3 second leg, and a golden set lost 19-17. The rematch cannot come soon enough.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars
1. LOVB Austin — the Texas rivalry. LOVB is two seasons old, so these are rivalries in the making — but this one is already real. The league’s only in-state feud began with Houston’s reverse-sweep win in the first match in club history on January 9, 2025, and includes the longest set of the inaugural season, 33-31 at Cedar Park. Austin has won both LOVB titles so far — the standard Houston is chasing — and both clubs now sit in the same Western Conference.
2. LOVB Salt Lake — the golden-set rivalry. Salt Lake swept Houston twice in January 2026, Houston answered with a 3-0 sweep on March 25, and then No. 4 Salt Lake eliminated the regular-season champions in a 19-17 playoff golden set. Four Houston players crossed to Salt Lake for 2026-27, which adds real spice to every meeting from here.
3. LOVB Nebraska — the Finals-rematch rivalry. As LOVB Omaha, Nebraska reverse-swept No. 2 Houston in the 2025 Finals semifinal on the way to the championship match — and the tie runs deeper, because Houston libero Justine Wong-Orantes is a Nebraska Cornhusker legend. Nebraska won the last meeting, 3-1 at Baxter Arena on April 1, 2026.
4. LOVB Atlanta — the other original. Houston and Atlanta were the league’s first two announced markets back in March 2023. Atlanta was the No. 2 seed in 2026, and Houston beat them three times that season — including the March 14 sweep at Berry Center and the April 4 match that clinched the regular-season title.
