⚽ Inter Miami Fans — Your Champions Are Coming for Two in a Row!
The Herons lifted MLS Cup in 2025, moved into a stunning new home in 2026, and clinched another playoff run with the league’s best attack. Pink shirts, full voice — this is the season to wear the champions’ colors.
The Club
Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami — Inter Miami CF to the world — was founded on January 29, 2018, and kicked off its first MLS season in 2020. Owned by Jorge Mas, Jose Mas and club president David Beckham, the Herons have gone from expansion dream to the center of the soccer universe in seven seasons. Pink is not just a color here; it is the identity — drawn from Miami’s Art Deco streets, its beaches, and the herons on the crest.
In 2026 the club opened the doors to its forever home: Nu Stadium at Miami Freedom Park, a 26,700-seat stadium in Miami proper with the largest roof canopy in MLS and an east stand officially named the Leo Messi Stand. The first match under those lights was the home opener against Austin FC on April 4, 2026 — a sellout, and the start of a new era.
The dugout has been a story of its own this season. Javier Mascherano, who delivered MLS Cup in 2025, stepped down in April. Guillermo Hoyos steadied the ship through the summer, and in September the club handed the keys to Cristian “Kily” González — an Argentine winger who once shared a national-team dressing room with Messi. His first match in charge? A trophy. More on that below.
Is Messi playing? It is the question half of America types into Google every matchday — and right now the answer is the best one: yes, fit, starting, and scoring for fun. The captain’s form is woven through everything this team does, and the pink No. 10 remains the best-selling jersey in MLS.

Last Season (2025): The First Star
Miami’s all-star project finally cashed in. The Herons finished third in the East, watched Philadelphia take the Supporters’ Shield, lost the Leagues Cup final to Seattle — and then turned the playoffs into a parade. Messi produced a postseason-record 15 goal contributions as Miami scored an MLS-record 20 playoff goals, sweeping past Nashville, Cincinnati and NYCFC to reach the final.
On December 6, 2025, at Chase Stadium, Inter Miami beat Vancouver Whitecaps FC 3–1 to win the club’s first MLS Cup. An early own goal, a Vancouver equalizer, then Messi the provider: assists for Rodrigo De Paul’s winner and Tadeo Allende’s record ninth goal of the postseason. Messi was named MLS Cup MVP and collected his second straight league MVP award and the Golden Boot. And when the whistle blew, two legends — Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba — lifted the trophy in the final match of their careers. Champions, and a farewell written in silver.
Best Players Right Now
Lionel Messi — #10, forward, captain. Twenty-five goals and 15 assists in league play, leading the Golden Boot race and chasing a third straight MLS MVP award no player has ever won. He is the first player in MLS history with 15+ assists in three straight seasons — and he is under contract through 2028, so the show is not ending soon.
Luis Suárez — #9, striker. At 39, still the coldest finisher in the box: 15 goals and 11 assists. The other half of the most famous double act in MLS, signed through the end of this season and playing like he wants it to end with another parade.
Rodrigo De Paul — #7, central midfield. Messi’s World Cup-winning bodyguard, made a permanent signing from Atlético Madrid last December through 2029. He scored the goal that won MLS Cup, and this season he runs Miami’s midfield with five goals and 14 assists.
Germán Berterame — #19, forward. The third star of the 2026 attack: nine league goals, assists in double figures, and the opener in the playoff-clinching win over NYCFC.
Casemiro — #5, defensive midfield. The summer’s blockbuster: the five-time Champions League winner arrived as a free agent from Manchester United in July, took Busquets’ old No. 5 shirt, and brought instant steel — even scoring in three straight matches in September.
Telasco Segovia — #8, midfielder. The 23-year-old Venezuelan engine, a breakout star of the 2025 playoff run who keeps deciding big moments — including the winner in this spring’s wild Florida Derby comeback.
Star Spotlight
The night Miami became champions. December 6, 2025. Messi did not score in the MLS Cup final — he did something scarier. Twice in 25 minutes he unlocked Vancouver, setting up De Paul and Allende to turn 1–1 into 3–1 and deliver the first star. Busquets played all 90 in his last-ever match. Alba lifted the cup and walked into retirement. It was the night a marketing phenomenon became a football team with a trophy.
The captain’s last World Cup. This summer, at 39, Messi captained Argentina to one more World Cup final on American soil — eight goals, including the late semifinal comeback against England in Atlanta — before Spain edged the July 19 final. In the autumn he closed his international career, which means every remaining Messi minute belongs to Miami. His first games back told the story: a brace in Atlanta on October 17, in the very stadium where that semifinal happened.
Two down in Orlando, four goals later. March 1, 2026: the Florida Derby, Miami trailing 2–0 inside half an hour at Orlando City. Then the champions woke up — Silvetti, a Messi brace for his first goals of 2026, and Segovia’s winner. A 4–2 comeback and Miami’s first-ever regular-season win in Orlando. That is the standard this team sets itself: no game is gone while No. 10 is on the pitch.

This Season (2026): The Title Defense
Miami sit second in the Eastern Conference on 55 points from 30 matches — 15 wins, 10 draws, just five defeats — with a league-best 73 goals scored. The attack is a cheat code; the 51 conceded is the honest weakness every opponent will target in November. The playoff spot was sealed on October 14 with a 2–0 home win over NYCFC (Berterame and De Paul), Miami’s third straight postseason and fifth overall, and as a top-seven seed they skip the Wild Card round entirely.
The season has already delivered silverware: on September 16, in Kily González’s debut, Miami beat Liga MX champions Cruz Azul 2–0 at Nu Stadium to win the Campeones Cup — the fourth trophy of the Messi era. The lows were real too: a Concacaf Champions Cup exit to Nashville on away goals in March, a Leagues Cup campaign that ended in Phase One, and a five-match winless run that cost a coach his job. But three straight wins — D.C. United 4–0, NYCFC 2–0, Atlanta 3–1 — say the champions are peaking exactly when champions should. The mission now is history: no club since the 2011–12 LA Galaxy has repeated as MLS Cup champions.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars
1. Orlando City SC — the Florida Derby. Two hundred and thirty miles of turnpike, zero love lost. The 2026 editions were instant classics: Miami’s 4–2 comeback win in Orlando in March, then Orlando’s revenge at Nu Stadium in May — Miami led 3–0, and Martín Ojeda’s hat trick dragged Orlando to a 4–3 win, one of the great comebacks in league history, in front of 26,684 stunned fans. If the playoff bracket delivers this series in November, cancel your plans.
2. Atlanta United FC. The club that authored Miami’s most painful night — the No. 8 seed that bounced the record-breaking 2024 Shield winners out of Round One. The edge sharpened in 2026 because Atlanta are now coached by Gerardo “Tata” Martino, the man who used to manage Miami. This year’s meetings: a 2–2 draw in Miami, then a 3–1 Herons win in Atlanta sealed by a four-minute Messi brace.
3. Los Angeles FC. MLS’s two glamour franchises, and Messi vs Son Heung-min — the league’s marquee matchup. LAFC won the bragging rights early, beating Miami 3–0 at the LA Memorial Coliseum in the February season opener, a cold shower that still stings. Any meeting between these two is a national event and a possible MLS Cup preview.
