Last Season: Regional Titles and the Road to Nationals
Last season’s story was written in the fall and confirmed in the spring. In fall 2025, Luis Alvarez and Oscar Lacides shared the ITA Central Regional singles co-championship, a result that sent both men through to the NCAA Singles Championship as qualifiers — the regional route to the national stage, earned the hard way. For Lacides, it made him a back-to-back NCAA qualifier, a pedigree few players in the country can match.
In spring 2026 reporting, Alvarez stood as the team’s singles leader, the senior setting the tone at the top of the lineup. Around him, the doubles pedigree was just as real: Lacides and Bruno Nhavene had lifted the 2024 regional doubles championship together, and Nhavene returned to the 2026 squad carrying that NCAA doubles qualifier pedigree. No team standings are claimed here that the sources do not support — but the individual record is clear: this is a group that knows how to win when the season is on the line.
Best Players Right Now
Luis Alvarez, Senior Singles Leader — The senior at the top of the lineup. Alvarez shared the fall 2025 ITA Central Regional singles title, qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship, and led the Sooners in singles in spring 2026 reporting. He is the player the whole lineup is built around.
Oscar Lacides, Singles Star — The back-to-back NCAA qualifier. Lacides matched Alvarez stride for stride at the 2025 Central Regional, sharing the singles co-championship, and he owns the 2024 regional doubles title alongside Nhavene. Singles or doubles, Lacides is a proven winner.
Bruno Nhavene, Doubles Specialist — The doubles pedigree of the trio. Nhavene’s 2024 regional doubles championship with Lacides and his NCAA doubles qualifier pedigree make him the partnership player — the man who turns a good team into a dangerous one in the doubles point.
Star Spotlight: Stories You Should Know
The regional route to nationals. There is no shortcut to the NCAA Singles Championship — you earn it through your region. Alvarez and Lacides did exactly that in fall 2025, sharing the Central Regional singles crown and booking their places at nationals. That is the standard this group holds itself to.
Back-to-back means something. Qualifying for the NCAA Singles Championship once is a career highlight. Doing it in consecutive years, as Lacides has, is a statement about consistency — the same player, the same pressure, the same result.
The doubles point matters. College dual matches are often decided before the singles even starts, and the Sooners carry a real doubles pedigree: the 2024 regional doubles title won by Lacides and Nhavene. One honest note: that pairing is from 2024, and it is not confirmed as the 2026 primary pair — but the pedigree itself is beyond doubt.

This Season
This season is about building on that qualifier pedigree. The 2026-27 campaign follows the familiar college shape: the fall ITA circuit, where individual honors and NCAA berths are earned, and then the spring dual season, where the team result is everything. Alvarez leads the singles group as the senior standard-bearer, Lacides brings his back-to-back qualifier experience, and Nhavene gives the doubles lineup its edge. No preseason ranking is claimed for Alvarez — his exact current ITA ranking was not verified — but the record he already owns needs no ranking to speak for it.

Circle the shape of the season ahead, Sooners fans — the dates themselves are still to come:
No confirmed fixtures have been published at the time of writing. The season runs on the usual college calendar: the fall ITA circuit first, where NCAA individual berths are decided, followed by the spring dual season. When the full schedule is published, this guide will be updated with every Sooners date.
Biggest Rivalries — The Wars
1. Texas — the Red River rivalry. Oklahoma versus Texas is one of college sport’s great rivalries, and the tennis meetings carry that same edge. When the Sooners and Longhorns meet, form goes out of the window and pride takes over. No result is claimed here — the rivalry needs no scoreline to matter.
2. Oklahoma State — Bedlam, the in-state war. Nothing stirs Norman like Bedlam. The Sooners against the Cowboys, for state bragging rights, is the fixture every Oklahoma tennis fan circles first. In-state, in-conference-adjacent, personal — Bedlam is Bedlam in any sport.
3. The SEC field — ranked opponents, week in, week out. Life in the SEC means the schedule never lets up: ranked conference opponents, hostile road trips and dual matches where every court counts. The Sooners’ qualifier pedigree was built against exactly this kind of field.
