The Club: Louisville City FC, the USL’s Trophy Standard

Louisville City Football Club were created on June 4, 2014 and played their first USL season in 2015 — and no club in the league has set a higher standard since. LouCity, the Boys in Purple, won back-to-back league titles in 2017 and 2018 (a league first), reached a third straight final in 2019, and play at Lynn Family Stadium in Butchertown — a 15,304-capacity soccer-specific cathedral opened in 2020, shared with NWSL side Racing Louisville FC, whose closest seat sits under five metres from the pitch. The Louisville City FC schedule at Lynn Family is one of American soccer’s great nights out, and the record crowd of 14,673 shows it.

The 2026 Louisville City FC roster is led by interim head coach Simon Bird, the long-time assistant who took over in March 2026 when Danny Cruz — the club’s winningest manager — departed for Minnesota United. The Louisville City FC roster still runs through Taylor Davila, the reigning league Player of the Year signed through 2028, while Ray Serrano and Jansen Wilson share the team scoring lead. Last Season: The Perfect Season That Ended in Shock

LouCity’s 2025 was one of the most dominant regular seasons in league history: first in the East and overall with 73 points from 30 games — 22 wins, 7 draws and a single defeat — 56 goals scored, just 19 conceded, a league-record 2.43 points per game, a second straight Players’ Shield, and a first-ever undefeated home regular season. Taylor Davila was voted the league’s Player of the Year, and LouCity set a league record with five All-League First Team selections. Then came November 1: the No. 1 seed lost its home quarterfinal 0-1 to No. 8 seed Detroit City, Devon Amoo-Mensah scoring the only goal. The league-title drought stretched to seven years — and the finale of 2026 offers the perfect chance for revenge.

Best Players Right Now

Ray Serrano — #7, Forward/Winger. LouCity’s man of the moment: his first career USL Championship hat trick came on October 17 against Indy Eleven, earning Player of the Week. His eight league goals equal the team high and his career best.

Taylor Davila — #8, Central Midfielder. The reigning 2025 USL Championship Player of the Year and the team’s assists leader again in 2026. He delivered the corner for the USL Cup Final winner and signed through 2028 — the creative hub of everything LouCity do.

Jansen Wilson — #25, Forward. The Kentucky local product shares the team lead with eight league goals, including the opener in the playoff-clinching win at Charleston. He was the top scorer of the 2026 USL Cup with five goals and made its Team of the Tournament.

Chris Donovan — #9, Centre-forward. The headline 2026 signing from Philadelphia Union set a USL Championship single-game record with four assists in the 4-1 win over Indy on October 17 — assisting Serrano’s hat trick and Lambert’s goal — and sits second on the team in league assists behind Davila.

Aiden McFadden — #2, Defender/Wing-back. He headed the winning goal of the 2026 USL Cup Final (12′, from Davila’s corner) and was named the final’s MVP — months after scoring the 85th-minute winner in the season opener at Lexington while wearing a protective mask days after surgery on a broken nose.

Kevon Lambert — #31, Midfielder/Defender. The Jamaica international produced 17 clearances in the USL Cup Final — the highest single-game mark in USL Cup history — and scored against Indy in October despite an injury-hit season.

Star Spotlight: Completing the Trophy Cabinet

October 4, 2026, Hartford: McFadden’s 12th-minute header from Davila’s corner, Lambert’s record 17 clearances, and a 1-0 win over Hartford Athletic in the Prinx Tires USL Cup Final. With it, LouCity became the first club to win all three USL trophies — league titles in 2017 and 2018, Players’ Shields in 2024 and 2025, and now the USL Cup — with Simon Bird the first LouCity coach to win a cup final since 2018. The run there was pure LouCity: penalty-shootout wins at Tampa Bay and at San Antonio after two 0-0 draws. Add April’s 2-1 Open Cup upset of MLS side Austin FC at Lynn Family Stadium — the club’s first Open Cup win over an MLS team since 2018 — and the record night of October 17, when Serrano’s hat trick and Donovan’s four assists destroyed Indy 4-1, and this season has silverware and stories in equal measure.

This Season: A Trophy, a Coaching Change, a Home Playoff Game

The 2026 Louisville City FC schedule has been a rollercoaster: fourth in the East on 46 points (13 wins, 9 losses, 7 draws), 51 goals scored. The Shield defence never materialized after Cruz’s March departure — nine league defeats against one in all of 2025, with Tampa Bay Rowdies taking the 2026 Shield — but LouCity won the USL Cup, reached the Open Cup Round of 16, and surged late: unbeaten in five in the league (W-D-W-W-W), with wins at Charleston and Sporting JAX in October sealing the No. 4 seed and a home quarterfinal. The Louisville City FC standings watch is over — this is the club’s 12th consecutive playoff appearance, and it starts at home.

The late surge had unlikely heroes in goal. Ryan Schewe, signed on loan from Sporting Kansas City on September 4, became the starting keeper down the stretch — starring in the USL Cup semifinal shootout at San Antonio and posting back-to-back clean sheets against Charleston and Indy in October, with a team-best 72.7% save percentage in league play. Captain Kyle Adams anchors the defence, and the production is spread the LouCity way: Sam Gleadle, Tola Showunmi — who scored twice in the Open Cup first round and again in the famous Austin win — and Quenzi Huerman have all had their nights. Twelve straight playoff appearances is not a streak; it is a standard.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars

1. Indy Eleven — the LIPAFC. The Louisville–Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest, created by the two supporters’ groups between cities linked by I-65, with a trophy contested across the season series. The 2026 split was perfect theatre: Indy won 2-1 at home in August; LouCity answered 4-1 at Lynn Family on October 17 — Serrano’s hat trick, Donovan’s record four assists. The series’ biggest game, LouCity’s 5-3 win in April 2024, was the first USL match ever shown on CBS.

2. Lexington SC — the Kentucky rivalry. The in-state war that began when Lexington joined the Championship in 2025 — and instantly turned personal when Lexington’s record signing for 2026 was ex-LouCity top scorer Phillip Goodrum. So far it is one-way traffic: after July 11, 2026, LouCity’s run stood at six straight wins in the rivalry, including a 4-2 USL Cup win that night.

3. FC Cincinnati — the Dirty River Derby (historic). The Ohio River rivalry of LouCity’s early years, fought for the River Cities Cup from 2016 to 2018 before Cincinnati’s move to MLS. LouCity’s signature result is the 5-0 win on August 12, 2017 — still the derby’s largest victory — and LouCity were the final cup holders. The derby now lives only in the Open Cup; the latest meeting was Cincinnati’s 1-0 win in April 2023.
