FIRE THE CANNONS! The Krewe does not jump ship.

Baker’s thumb is healing, the rookie lit up Dallas, and the NFC South is still wide open. This is Tampa Bay football — loud, proud and never boring.

The Club

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were founded in 1976 and began life as the NFL’s lovable punchline, losing their first 26 games in the famous creamsicle orange uniforms. What followed is one of sport’s great glow-ups. Since 1998 the Bucs have played at Raymond James Stadium — complete with a full-size pirate ship that fires its cannons after every score — wearing their battle red and pewter. When the Buccaneers play at home, the whole city feels those cannons.

The turnaround peaked twice. In the 2002 season, Jon Gruden’s ferocious defense — Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber, John Lynch — destroyed the Oakland Raiders 48–21 in Super Bowl XXXVII. Then, in the 2020 season, Tom Brady arrived and Tampa Bay beat Kansas City 31–9 in Super Bowl LV, becoming the first team ever to win a Super Bowl in its own stadium. Add in Mike Evans, the most productive receiver in franchise history, and the Bucs’ story is pure Florida: sunshine, stubbornness and sudden glory. If you are looking for a Buccaneers jersey, checking the Buccaneers schedule or hunting Buccaneers tickets for a night game at Raymond James, this is your home base.

Last Season (2025): The Streak Snaps

The 2025 season ended 8–9, and it stung more than the record suggests. Tampa Bay had ruled the NFC South four straight years, but a banged-up roster limped through the winter and the Carolina Panthers took the division on a tiebreaker. Baker Mayfield kept slinging through the pain, running back Bucky Irving announced himself as a star, and first-round receiver Emeka Egbuka delivered a rookie season that had the Krewe dreaming. The message from 2025 was simple: the window is still open — but the margin for error is gone.

Best Players Right Now (2026 Roster)

Baker Mayfield, QB (#6) — The heartbeat of the franchise. The former No. 1 pick rebuilt his career in Tampa, signed a three-year, $165 million extension before this season, and is fighting back from a dislocated thumb suffered in Week 3.

Bucky Irving, RB (#7) — The spark plug. Irving’s make-you-miss magic turned him from a fourth-round steal into the engine of the Bucs’ offense.

Emeka Egbuka, WR (#2) — The 2025 first-rounder wasted no time becoming the top target in the passing game — polished routes, vice-grip hands, big-game nerve.

Chris Godwin Jr., WR (#14) — The dependable chain-mover and one of the toughest slot receivers in football. When Tampa needs a first down, No. 14 is the answer.

Tristan Wirfs, LT (#78) — Quite simply one of the best offensive linemen alive. Mayfield’s blind side is the safest address in Florida.

Vita Vea, NT (#50) — A 350-pound mountain who dances like a man half his size. Vea anchors the middle and wrecks every run game on the schedule.

Antoine Winfield Jr., S (#31) — The All-Pro playmaker who is everywhere: blitzing, covering, stripping the ball and leading Todd Bowles’ chaos defense.

Yaya Diaby, OLB (#0) — The edge rusher with the best number in football and a first step to match. Tampa’s pass-rush future is already here.

Head coach: Todd Bowles — The defensive mastermind, now in his fifth season in charge, still dialing up blitzes nobody else dares to call.

Star Spotlight: Stories You Should Know

The thumb, the rookie, and the night in Dallas. On September 27, Baker Mayfield dislocated his right thumb against Minnesota — no fracture, no ligament damage, but a 3-to-6 week absence and stitches in his throwing hand. Tampa turned to Jalon Daniels, an undrafted rookie, and braced for the worst. Instead, Daniels walked into Dallas on a Thursday night and stunned the Cowboys 24–16 for the Bucs’ first win of the season. Mayfield is out of the big splint, gripping a football again, and his return is now the single biggest storyline in the NFC South.

Egbuka was built for this. Some rookies need time. Emeka Egbuka needed about one quarter. The Ohio State star stepped into a veteran receiver room in 2025 and immediately played like a ten-year pro; by year two he is the man defenses game-plan for first. In a season of injuries and chaos, No. 2 has been Tampa’s constant.

Carrying the Winfield name — and outrunning it. Antoine Winfield Jr.’s father was a Pro Bowl corner who spent 14 years in the league. Junior has somehow lapped the legend: an All-Pro safety who lines up everywhere, blitzes like a linebacker and owns the biggest moments. When the cannons fire at Raymond James, it usually means Winfield just did something ridiculous.

This Season (2026): Battered, Not Beaten

At 1–5, the Buccaneers’ record is ugly — the story behind it is not. Tampa opened 0–3 for the first time since 2014, lost Mayfield’s thumb in Week 3, dropped an overtime heartbreaker to Pittsburgh in Week 6, and still owns a win at Dallas that showed exactly what this team can be. The NFC South remains a street fight: Carolina leads at 3–2, with Atlanta and New Orleans at 2–4, so one hot month changes everything. Everything now hinges on Mayfield’s thumb. If No. 6 returns for the stretch run — a Monday night home game against Carolina in late November looms enormous — the Bucs are the team nobody in this division wants to face in December. When the Buccaneers play desperate, they are dangerous.

Mark Your Calendar: Upcoming Games to Watch

The Buccaneers schedule from here is a gauntlet — and an opportunity. Circle these five:

  • Sunday, October 25 — at Carolina Panthers: First place in the NFC South is on the line in Charlotte. Win, and the Bucs are right back in the race.
  • Sunday, November 1 — vs Atlanta Falcons (Raymond James Stadium): A divisional grudge match at home. Buccaneers tickets for this one will not last.
  • Sunday, November 8 — at Chicago Bears (Sunday Night Football): Prime time at Soldier Field. The whole country watches Tampa’s fight-back.
  • Monday, November 30 — vs Carolina Panthers (Monday Night Football): The rematch, under the lights, with the pirate ship rocking. This could decide the division.
  • Sunday, December 20 — vs New Orleans Saints (Raymond James Stadium): Hate week. The Saints in Tampa, in December, with everything on the line.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars

1. New Orleans Saints. The NFC South’s nastiest feud — sideline brawls, playoff collisions and Tom Brady vs Drew Brees in the 2020 divisional round. Bucs-Saints is never just a game.

2. Atlanta Falcons. A division rivalry supercharged by years of shootouts and spoiled seasons. Tampa and Atlanta simply do not like each other, and it shows every snap.

3. Carolina Panthers. The team that stole the division in 2025. Two meetings this season, both with the NFC South hanging in the balance.

4. Green Bay Packers. The old “Battle of the Bays” from their NFC Central days — Tampa’s expansion-era nemesis, and the team Bart Starr’s dynasty once tormented. Old grudges die hard.
