The Club: FC Tulsa, the Scissortails of the Greenwood District

FC Tulsa began life as the Tulsa Roughnecks in 2015, and the Craft brothers’ December 2019 rebrand gave the club its modern identity: the Scissortails, named for the scissor-tailed flycatcher — Oklahoma’s state bird — that rises at the center of the crest beside vertical Art Deco “TULSA” lettering. The gold comes from Tulsa’s Art Deco architecture and the patina green from the oxidized copper roofs of downtown landmarks. Tulsa plays at ONEOK Field in the historic Greenwood District, a converted ballpark that hosted the 2025 USL Championship Final in front of a club-record 9,507 fans. The FC Tulsa schedule is now appointment viewing in the West.

Head coach Luke Spencer, promoted from assistant in November 2024, delivered the greatest season in club history in his first year and has the FC Tulsa roster back in the playoffs in 2026 despite losing record scorer Taylor Calheira to a club-record transfer. The FC Tulsa roster is rebuilt around Rémi Cabral up front, Jamie Webber’s creativity and one of the West’s meanest defences. If the Black and Gold are your colours, the fan-inspired FC Tulsa jersey designs in our Fan Favorite block below carry the gold with pride.

Last Season: 120 Minutes from Glory

Tulsa’s 2025 was the greatest season in club history. First in the West with a franchise-record 57 points and 50 goals, the Scissortails stormed the playoffs without conceding — beating Colorado Springs and Phoenix after extra time, then routing New Mexico United 3-0 in the Western Conference Final (Taylor Calheira’s brace, Jamie Webber’s third). On November 22, 2025, ONEOK Field hosted the league final: 120 scoreless minutes against Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Tulsa outshooting the Hounds 17-6, before the shootout went Pittsburgh’s way 5-3. Heartbreak — but a season that changed what this club believes is possible.

The records fell everywhere in 2025: club marks for wins (16), home wins (10), road wins (6), goals (50), points (57) and goal differential (+20), plus 10 clean sheets and a 19-point improvement on 2024. Calheira’s 15 league goals set the club’s single-season regular-season scoring record and earned All-League First Team honours; defender Lamar Batista made the Second Team. Even the U.S. Open Cup run fit the story — Tulsa reached the Third Round before losing to Phoenix Rising on penalties at home after a 1-1 draw. It was, by every measure, the season Tulsa stopped being a plucky outsider and became a Western power.

Best Players Right Now

Rémi Cabral — #7, Centre-forward. The marquee 2026 attacking signing and Tulsa’s top league scorer with five goals in a low-scoring side. The brother of former LA Galaxy DP Kévin Cabral, Rémi is the man the post-Calheira attack runs through.

Jamie Webber — #8, Attacking Midfielder. The set-piece and creative hub — scorer in the 2025 Western Conference Final and the squad’s most-used outfield player in 2026. When Tulsa need a moment of quality, Webber provides it.

Logan Dorsey — #14, Forward. The Minnesota United 2 loanee has been the form finisher of the run-in: five league goals since arriving in June, capped by a goal-and-assist performance against Oakland on October 17.

Jeorgio Kocevski — #13, Central Midfielder. The engine — he had started all but one league match by late September and leads the squad in minutes. Assists in consecutive matches during the run-in underline his growing influence.

Lamar Batista — #15, Centre-back. The defensive leader and a genuine set-piece threat: 87 clearances and two goals in 2026. An All-League selection in 2025, he anchors a back line that conceded just 29 in 29 games.

Abdoulaye Cissoko — #91, Centre-back. Batista’s partner and the captain in recent lineups — the other half of one of the league’s meanest centre-back pairings.

Star Spotlight: The Night Tulsa Owned the West

November 15, 2025: FC Tulsa 3, New Mexico United 0. Calheira scored either side of halftime and Webber added the third to send Tulsa to the first league final in club history — the peak night of the Spencer era. A week later came the final itself: 120 scoreless minutes, a record crowd, and a shootout that still stings. Stefan Lukic, whose penalty was saved that night, remains at the club in 2026 — a redemption storyline written for these playoffs. And when the new attack needed a statement, it produced one: a 5-1 win at Orange County in August, Tulsa’s biggest away win of 2026.

This Season: Playoff-Bound, Seeding on the Line

The 2026 FC Tulsa schedule has been a different kind of grind: sixth in the West on 43 points (11 wins, 10 draws, 8 losses), with the attack cooled after Calheira’s club-record move to Sporting Kansas City — 34 goals against last season’s 50 — but the defence still among the West’s best at 29 conceded. The FC Tulsa standings math is settled where it matters: Tulsa cannot be caught by ninth-placed Phoenix or Orange County, so playoff soccer is guaranteed for a second straight year. What Saturday decides is seeding — fifth through seventh is live, and the finale is a head-to-head at Colorado Springs (44 points) with a possible home playoff game in the balance. After last November, nobody in the West wants to draw the Scissortails in a knockout.

The run-in has tested Tulsa’s depth. Club reporting through the autumn listed goalkeeper Alex Tambakis and defender Harvey St Clair among those working back from injury, with Marcos Cerato and Boubacar Diallo hopeful of late-season returns — Cerato finally made his season debut off the bench against Oakland on October 17. In goal, backup Dane Jacomen emerged from early July with a standout stretch, allowing one goal across five starts. Mid-season arrival Will Wilson, the Kenyan midfielder signed from the Finnish first division, scored in that wild Oakland finale, and defender Joel Sangwa earned a full roster spot after impressing on a 25-day contract. It is that next-man-up resilience — plus a defence that travels — that makes Tulsa a nightmare quarterfinal draw wherever Saturday lands them. The supporting cast runs deep, too: Owen Damm and winger Kalil ElMedkhar have been regulars all season, Bruno Lapa arrived in 2026 to add another creative option, and midfielder Stefan Lukic — whose saved penalty decided the 2025 Final — remains at the club with the ultimate redemption storyline on the table.

The 2026 home shirt deserves its own line in the programme: the Philtower Kit, limestone-gold with a subtle Art Deco pattern drawn from the 1928 downtown landmark and made by hummel, might just be the classiest shirt in the league — Tulsa’s Gold Era, worn with pride.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars

1. OKC Energy FC — the Black Gold Derby (dormant). Oklahoma’s derby, named for oil, with a supporters-created trophy: a four-foot wrench painted in each club’s colours. Tulsa won the Wrench in 2021 and the last meeting 2-0 that October; OKC’s hiatus since then makes this a sleeping giant Tulsa fans still talk about first.

2. New Mexico United — the Route 66 Derby. The defining clash is Tulsa’s 3-0 win in the 2025 Western Conference Final. In 2026 the pair split the season — New Mexico won 1-0 in Albuquerque in August; Tulsa answered 1-0 at ONEOK Field on September 30.

3. Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. The past two Western Conference champions, and a playoff rematch with real edge: Tulsa advanced past the Switchbacks after extra time in the 2025 quarterfinal. The next chapter comes immediately — October 24 at Weidner Field, with seeding on the line.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is FC Tulsa’s nickname and where does it come from?
The Scissortails — after the scissor-tailed flycatcher, Oklahoma’s state bird, which rises at the center of the club crest next to vertical Art Deco “TULSA” lettering. The club was previously the Tulsa Roughnecks (2015-2019) and still uses “Roughnecks” colloquially.

Has FC Tulsa ever won the USL Championship?
Not yet — but they came within a shootout of it. Tulsa won the 2025 Western Conference title and hosted the league final on Nov 22, 2025, drawing 0-0 with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC over 120 minutes before losing the penalty shootout 3-5 in front of a club-record 9,507 fans at ONEOK Field.

Where do FC Tulsa play, and is it a soccer stadium?
At ONEOK Field in Tulsa’s Greenwood District — a baseball park (home of the Tulsa Drillers) converted for soccer, FC Tulsa’s home since 2015. The 2025 final set the club attendance record there (9,507).

Who is FC Tulsa’s best player in 2026?
The attack is shared after Taylor Calheira’s club-record transfer to Sporting Kansas City — Rémi Cabral (#7) is the top league scorer with 5 goals, Jamie Webber (#8) runs the midfield, and Minnesota United loanee Logan Dorsey (#14) has been the form finisher of the run-in.
