The Club

The Atlanta Falcons were founded in 1966 and play at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Still chasing a first Lombardi Trophy, Atlanta is a two-time NFC champion that lost Super Bowl XXXIII to Denver and lived the most famous collapse in football history — Super Bowl LI, the 28-3 lead over New England that slipped away in overtime. The legends are icons: Deion Sanders, Michael Vick, Julio Jones, Roddy White, Jessie Tuggle and Matt Ryan, the 2016 NFL MVP who now runs the football operation. The fans call themselves the Dirty Birds, and their command is simple: Rise Up. Searching for an Atlanta Falcons jersey, the latest Falcons schedule or Falcons tickets? Start with the question Atlanta asks every week: when do the Falcons play.

Last Season (2025): The Collapse That Ended an Era

Atlanta’s 2025 was a slow-motion car crash: a 4-9 start, an eighth straight year without the playoffs, and an 8-9 finish, third in the NFC South. Penix partially tore his ACL in Week 11 against Carolina and was lost for the season; Kirk Cousins finished the year. Eliminated in Week 14, the Falcons then won their final four — and the Week 18 win over New Orleans handed the division to Carolina. Hours later, owner Arthur Blank fired head coach Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot. The bright spots: Robinson and Chris Lindstrom made the Pro Bowl, four Falcons earned All-Pro honors, and Pitts delivered his career year — 80 catches, 854 yards, five touchdowns.

Best Players Right Now (2026 Roster)

Michael Penix Jr., Quarterback (#9) — The starter, finally. Back from the torn ACL that ended his 2025: 944 yards, 6 touchdowns, one interception and a 106.0 rating in four starts.

Bijan Robinson, Running Back (#7) — The engine of everything Atlanta does: 641 rushing yards, 4 touchdowns and 20 catches through six games. A Pro Bowler and All-Pro in 2025, playing like the best back in football.

Drake London, Wide Receiver (#5) — The WR1: 31 catches for a team-high 550 yards through six games, still hunting his first touchdown of 2026 — healthy and due.

Kyle Pitts Sr., Tight End (#8) — The 2021 No. 4 pick, coming off the best season of his career — Stefanski’s offense leans on him over the middle.

Jessie Bates III, Safety (#3) — The quarterback of the secondary and a 2025 second-team All-Pro; where Bates lines up, the defense follows.

Xavier Watts, Safety (#31) — The 2025 third-round pick out of Notre Dame, now Bates’ running mate on the back end.

Chris Lindstrom, Guard (#63) — The two-time Pro Bowl guard and the anchor of the offensive line that Robinson runs behind.

Divine Deablo, Linebacker (#0) — The rangy linebacker wearing the single zero, flying sideline to sideline.

Tua Tagovailoa, Quarterback (#1) — The veteran addition, signed to a one-year deal after Miami released him. Named the Week 1 starter, he hurt his back in September and opened the door for Penix — who has not given the job back.

Head coach: Kevin Stefanski — Two-time NFL Coach of the Year with Cleveland, hired in January 2026 as the 20th head coach in franchise history. Tommy Rees runs the offense; Jeff Ulbrich the defense.

Star Spotlight: Stories You Should Know

The carousel that finally stopped. Atlanta’s quarterback room lived a decade in one year: Cousins released in March, Tua signed to compete with a still-rehabbing Penix, Tua named the Week 1 starter — then a back injury in a September 10 practice. Cooper Rush started Weeks 1-2 of an 0-2 start, including a 34-3 home humiliation by Carolina. Penix returned in Week 3, won 35-14 at Green Bay, then hung 45 points on the Saints. Four starts, six touchdowns, one interception, a 106.0 rating — the job is his now.

Bijan is the franchise. Everything in Stefanski’s offense runs through #7: 641 rushing yards in six games, a receiving threat out of the backfield, and the face of the franchise after a Pro Bowl, All-Pro 2025. If Atlanta climbs back, it will be on Robinson’s legs.

A new regime in a brand-new look. Matt Ryan runs the front office, Ian Cunningham is GM, Stefanski runs the sideline — and in April 2026 the Falcons unveiled a new uniform set: a red primary home jersey with “DIRTY BIRDS” inside the collar, the black kept as the 1966 throwback. The defense is surviving without both 2025 first-round edge rushers (Walker on IR, Pearce Jr. sidelined) behind Bates and Watts. Sunday against the unbeaten 49ers, in the throwback blacks, is the new era’s first real measuring stick.

This Season (2026): Winless at Home, Alive in the South

The strangest split in football: Atlanta is 2-4, second in the NFC South — winless at home (0-3), nearly perfect on the road (2-1). The wins were statements: 35-14 at Green Bay, 45-24 at New Orleans. The losses sting: overtime to Baltimore, a flat home defeat to Chicago, the 34-3 no-show against Carolina. One game behind Carolina, with both Saints and both Buccaneers games still to play, the South is there to be taken — but the margin for error is gone, and everything turns on Penix staying healthy through a brutal next stretch: the 49ers, at Tampa Bay, Madrid, Kansas City, then the bye.

Mark Your Calendar: Upcoming Games to Watch

Check the Falcons schedule and grab Falcons tickets early — these dates decide whether the Rise Up is real:

  • October 25 — vs San Francisco 49ers: The unbeaten 6-0 leaders visit (1:00 PM ET, Fox). Atlanta wears the 1966 throwback blacks — against a defense run by Raheem Morris, the coach it fired in January.
  • November 1 — at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The first of two meetings with the 1-5 Bucs at Raymond James Stadium. A must-win in the South race.
  • November 8 — vs Cincinnati Bengals, Madrid: Atlanta plays in the NFL’s Madrid international game at the Bernabéu (9:30 AM ET, NFL Network). Rise Up, Spanish edition.
  • November 15 — vs Kansas City Chiefs: The AFC’s measuring stick visits (1:00 PM ET, CBS) — the last test before the bye.
  • December 13 — at Cleveland Browns: Kevin Stefanski’s first return to Cleveland since the Browns fired him. Circle it in red.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars

1. New Orleans Saints — the nastiest feud in the South. Dating to 1967, between the two oldest franchises in the NFC South. Atlanta fired the first shot of 2026 with the 45-24 win at the Superdome on October 5; the rematch closes Atlanta’s home schedule on January 3.

2. Carolina Panthers — the I-85 rivalry. Carolina has won four straight in the series, including the 34-3 beatdown in Atlanta this September, and the Panthers sit on top of the division. Atlanta’s season finale is at Carolina.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers — the spoiler war. Division rivals since 2002, with a long history of season-wrecking spoilers. Two meetings are still to come: November 1 in Tampa, late December in Atlanta.

4. San Francisco 49ers — the old NFC West blood feud. Division rivals from 1970 to 2001, and it never really cooled. The 6-0 49ers arrive October 25 with Raheem Morris — the coach Atlanta just fired — running their defense.
