The Club

North Texas Soccer Club — North Texas SC to everyone in the Metroplex — is the reserve team of MLS club FC Dallas. FC Dallas was granted the side on November 2, 2018, the name and crest were unveiled that December, and the club played its first professional season in 2019. Owned by Clark and Dan Hunt and run day to day by general manager Matt Denny, the club is known locally as Los Toritos — the little bulls — and it wears the family identity with pride: the red-and-blue “Hoops” that FC Dallas has made famous since 2005.

The biggest change of 2026 was a new home. After a first season at Toyota Stadium in Frisco and six years at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, North Texas SC opened Texas Health Mansfield Stadium on July 4, 2026 — and opened it in style, beating St. Louis CITY2 3–0 in front of 5,694 fans, the club’s biggest home crowd of the season. Mansfield is the club’s third home in eight seasons, and its first true soccer-specific home of its own: five home matches started the year in Arlington, but the future is in Mansfield now.

The dugout is in transition. John Gall coached the side through the whole 2026 season — his 77 matches in charge are the most in club history — and the man who laid the foundation for the 2024 Cup run before returning to lead the team again. Four days after Decision Day, on September 24, 2026, the club announced that Gall would move on and the search for a new head coach would begin immediately. No successor has been named yet, so the next voice Los Toritos hear will be a new one — and whoever takes the job inherits one of the most proven development sides in American soccer.

And then there is the shirt. The 2026 home jersey is a new primary kit called “The Foundation” — alternating red and blue hoops with white side panels, built to serve the club through 2027. It is the first North Texas SC home shirt to carry a star above the crest, earned by the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Cup title, and it carries the Children’s Health name across the chest. This club exists to turn FC Dallas Homegrowns and SuperDraft picks into first-team players — and in 2026, three of its best stories were rookies wearing that star.

Last Season (2025): The One-Man Title Defense

Defending a cup is hard. Defending it with a leaky defense is harder. North Texas SC finished sixth in the Western Conference in 2025 — 11 wins, six draws and 11 defeats for 43 points, with 46 goals scored and 56 conceded — and still dragged themselves into the playoffs for a second straight year, clinching on Decision Day with a 4–2 win at LAFC 2. The engine of the whole campaign was one man: Sam Sarver, whose club-record 19 league goals — 44 percent of the team’s entire output — made him the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro MVP and a Best XI selection.

The ending was cruel. Sarver had signed a first-team contract with FC Dallas mid-season and was missing when the playoffs came, and as the No. 6 seed North Texas SC were picked by No. 2 seed The Town FC and beaten 3–0 in San Jose on October 19, 2025. The year was not empty, though: in July the club won the MLS NEXT Pro Invitational, beating Mexico’s Club Deportivo Tapatío 3–1 in Frisco. And 2025 was the last full season at Choctaw Stadium — the Mansfield era was already on the calendar.

Best Players Right Now

Edouard “Edu” Nys — #10, midfielder, captain. The team’s top scorer and top creator in the same season: 10 league goals and a team-leading seven assists, starting all 28 matches. The 21-year-old Belgian — the 40th overall pick in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft out of UIC — announced himself with a hat trick in his second professional match, was named the league’s Player of the Month for March, and represented MLS NEXT Pro at the 2026 MLS All-Star Skills Challenge. This is what a star season looks like.

Nathaniel “Natty” James — #11, midfielder/forward. Eight league goals in 26 appearances from the Trinidad and Tobago international, signed in January 2026 from Portland Hearts of Pine. James assisted Nys’s first professional goal on his own club debut and finished the season away on senior international duty in the Concacaf Nations League — a Player of the Matchweek honor in between.

Nicholas Simmonds — #16, forward. The best goals-per-game rate on the team: six goals and two assists in just 14 appearances. The 6-foot-4 Jamaican striker — the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 SuperDraft — scored on his debut weekend and closed the season scoring in three straight matches, including the penalty that opened September’s Texas Derby.

Ricky Louis — #15, forward. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 SuperDraft wrote his name into the new stadium’s history on opening night: the first goal ever scored at Texas Health Mansfield Stadium, and the first brace there too. Four goals and three assists in 19 appearances in his rookie year.

Slade Starnes — #26, defender, captain. The back line’s leader and the club’s 2026 Defender of the Year. The FC Dallas Homegrown started all 24 of his appearances in his first professional season, chipped in two goals — including the late strike on Decision Day in Colorado — and wore the armband like a veteran.

Diego Garcia — #50, midfielder. The club’s all-time appearances leader — a record 80 North Texas SC matches and counting by late August 2026. Every era of this club runs through Garcia: he scored the stoppage-time winner against Austin FC II that clinched the West in the 2024 title season, and he is still the midfield’s memory now.

Star Spotlight

The hat trick that announced Edu Nys. March 7, 2026, Choctaw Stadium: in only his second professional match, the rookie from UIC scored a hat trick in a 3–1 home-opening win over Colorado Rapids 2. Player of the Matchweek followed, then Player of the Month for March, then Goal of the Matchweek honors twice more before the season ended. By autumn, the No. 10 was the first name on this team sheet and the face of the club’s next wave.

A perfect opening night in Mansfield. July 4, 2026: a new stadium, a holiday crowd of 5,694, and a 3–0 win over St. Louis CITY2. Ricky Louis scored the first goal in the stadium’s history and added a stoppage-time second, Caleb Swann scored the other, and 16-year-old Da’vian Kimbrough — once the youngest player ever to debut in an American professional league — marked his club debut with an assist. Fireworks after the whistle, and a third home that finally felt like a fortress being born.

The comeback that made them champions. November 9, 2024, Toyota Stadium, the MLS NEXT Pro Cup final: North Texas SC trailed Philadelphia Union II 2–0 at half-time — and then produced the greatest half in club history. Logan Farrington’s free kick, Enes Sali’s equalizer, and Pedrinho’s back-heel winner in the 91st minute: 3–2, champions, in front of 7,692 fans, completing an unbeaten home season. It sits alongside the club’s first title — Arturo Rodríguez’s goal winning the inaugural USL League One Final in 2019 — as the twin peaks of Los Toritos history.

This Season (2026): The Mansfield Move and the Near Miss

The honest headline first: North Texas SC missed the 2026 playoffs. Los Toritos finished 10th in the Western Conference — eight wins, 10 draws and 10 defeats for 40 points, 42 goals scored and only 41 conceded — one single point behind the last playoff place. The defense that leaked 56 goals in 2025 tightened dramatically; the attack, rebuilt after Sarver’s promotion, never quite replaced him. It was a season of almosts: a 5–1 rout of Sporting Kansas City II in May for the biggest win, a 6–1 defeat at Ventura County in July for the worst day, and a run of draws — six of them converted into shootout wins — that kept the team close but never quite close enough.

The second headline is the one that will matter for years: the move to Mansfield worked. A 3–2–4 record and 15 goals at the new stadium after the July 4 opening, a home schedule that closed on September 13 with a shootout win over Houston in the Texas Derby, and a fan base that found its team a permanent home. The season ended on September 20 with a 2–1 Decision Day defeat in Colorado, and four days later the club turned the page — Gall departed, and the stated next chapter is the 2027 MLS NEXT Pro Sprint Season starting in February 2027. New coach, new stadium, a star above the crest: the rebuild starts from strength.

North Texas SC’s 2026 season is over — Los Toritos missed the playoffs by a single point — but the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs roll on, and every remaining match streams live on OneFootball.com and MLSNEXTPro.com.

Sunday, October 25, 2026 — Western Conference Semifinals. Regular-season champions Austin FC II host LAFC 2, and Portland Timbers2 face Ventura County FC — the West’s final four, and the level North Texas SC will measure their rebuild against.

October 30 – November 1, 2026 — Conference Finals. One match in each conference, hosted by the higher remaining seed. Win, and you play for the Cup.

November 6–8, 2026 — MLS NEXT Pro Cup. The championship match, hosted by the finalist with the highest regular-season points total — the trophy North Texas SC lifted in 2024, on the line again.

February 2027 — the 2027 MLS NEXT Pro Sprint Season begins. North Texas SC’s next campaign: a new head coach, a first full season at Texas Health Mansfield Stadium, and a playoff place to win back.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars

1. Houston Dynamo 2 — the Texas Derby. Three meetings in 2026, and Houston took the series — but every match was a war. Houston won 2–0 at home in March. In September at Mansfield, North Texas SC led through Simmonds’s penalty and Nys’s 75th-minute goal, only for a Houston side down to 10 men to score twice in stoppage time and steal a 3–2 win. Four days later came the rematch: 0–0, and Los Toritos took the shootout 4–3 with goalkeeper Eryk Dymora saving two penalties in the club’s final home match of the season. Houston reached the quarterfinals; North Texas SC did not — closing that gap is the rebuild’s first job.

2. Austin FC II — the other Texas war. Austin were the league’s best team in 2026 — regular-season champions and the No. 1 overall seed — and they owned this fixture for most of the year: 1–0 at Parmer Field in March, 2–0 at Choctaw in May. But in August at Mansfield, North Texas SC finally took something off the champions, drawing 0–0 and winning the shootout 3–1. The history runs deep: in the 2024 title season, it was Diego Garcia’s stoppage-time winner against Austin that clinched the West and home-field advantage for the Cup run.

3. Forward Madison FC — “El Plástico,” the original rivalry. This one is history, and any honest fan guide has to say so: the clubs have not met since North Texas SC left USL League One after 2021. But it remains the club’s only named rivalry — an artificial turf war born in 2019, when the sides split four regular-season meetings and settled everything in the playoff semifinal, which North Texas SC won 2–0 on a Ricardo Pepi brace to take the first El Plástico title. Across nine League One meetings, Los Toritos won six. Some rivalries you inherit; this one, the club built — literally.
