The Club

Minnesota United FC 2 — MNUFC2 to everyone, “the Twos” to the fans who follow them — is the reserve team of MLS club Minnesota United FC, the Loons. Announced on December 6, 2021, as one of the founding clubs of MLS NEXT Pro, the Twos have played in the league’s Western Conference, Frontier Division, since the inaugural 2022 season. They are a development side in the truest sense: young, hungry, and built to move players up to the first team at Allianz Field.

Home is NSC Stadium at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota — an intimate ground where you are close enough to hear every shout. Most 2026 home matches were played there, including the playoff-push wins in September and the Decision Day finale, though a handful of home dates each season are staged at the first team’s Allianz Field in Saint Paul instead — always check the fixture before you travel.

The man in charge is a name Minnesota fans know well. Fanendo Adi, the former MLS striker who won MLS Cup with Portland in 2015 and Columbus in 2020, was promoted from assistant to head coach on January 15, 2026 — the third head coach in club history. He inherited a rebuilt squad after the 2025 playoff heroes graduated, and promptly delivered the best regular season the club has ever had.

And then there is the shirt. The Twos wear their own kit, not the first team’s: a black adidas shirt with sky-blue side panels and a sky-blue collar, white adidas shoulder stripes, the slanted MNUFC2 shield — sky blue and off-white with a single star above it — and the sponsor Allina Health in white across the chest. Anyone searching for the MNUFC2 jersey in 2026 is picturing that black and sky blue shirt — the uniform of a team-record season.

Last Season (2025): The Breakthrough Run

After three seasons without a postseason, 2025 was the year the Twos finally broke through. Under head coach Jeremy Hall they finished 5th in the Western Conference (11th overall) with 12 wins, 6 draws and 10 losses — 45 goals scored, 44 points banked — and reached the playoffs for the first time in club history.

Then they made it count. In the Conference Quarterfinal on October 26, 2025, the Twos went to top-seeded St. Louis CITY2 and won 2–0 — Logan Dorsey’s early goal, Darius Randell’s header to seal it, and an 18-year-old goalkeeper, Kayne Rizvanovich, keeping the club’s first-ever playoff clean sheet on his birthday. A week later they led the Western Conference Final at Colorado Rapids 2 for half an hour before falling 2–1. Dorsey’s 11 goals were a club record at the time, Hall departed for the U.S. U18 National Team job, and the pathway did its work: Rizvanovich signed a first-team Homegrown contract and defender Britton Fischer signed an MLS deal. The Twos’ best players kept leaving — because that is the job.

Best Players Right Now

Darius Randell — #17, forward. The star of this team and the story of its season. The 18-year-old Homegrown scored a club-record 12 regular-season goals in 2026, led the team in assists too, and owned September: a brace against Colorado Rapids 2, a first-half hat trick against Whitecaps FC 2, back-to-back Player of the Matchweek awards, the league’s September Player of the Month honor, and a United States U20 National Team call-up. Remember the name — everyone in MLS soon will.

Marcus Caldeira — #22, forward. The second half of the league’s most exciting young strike pair. The 21-year-old Canadian scored 10 league goals with 3 assists, won the MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Month award for June 2026 — meaning Twos players took two of the season’s monthly honors — and earned a Canada Men’s National Team camp call-up during the season.

Mamadou Dieng — #29, forward. The Senegalese striker scored 5 league goals — and then owned the biggest night of the year. In the playoff quarterfinal at Ventura County FC, with the Twos 2–0 down inside 35 minutes, Dieng converted a penalty and headed the equalizer three minutes later to drag his team back from the brink, twice coming within inches of a hat trick. It was his second brace of the season, after his two-goal game against Austin FC II in July.

Sam Vigilante — defender. One of the side’s highest-rated performers all season, Vigilante started the playoff quarterfinal at right-back and delivered the cross for Dieng’s equalizer — the kind of two-way, any-position reliability that first teams notice.

Kristers Bite — goalkeeper. The Latvian shot-stopper led the team in saves and saved his best for last: diving stops in the 73rd and 113th minutes of the quarterfinal kept the Twos alive deep into extra time in Carson.

Jordan Adebayo-Smith — forward. The late-goal specialist of the run-in: he scored in the 90th minute of the Whitecaps rout and again on Decision Day against LAFC 2, then forced a punch save in extra time of the playoff quarterfinal. Captain Nick Dang, midfielder Hector Cruz — scorer of his first league goal in September — and Sierra Leone international Alpha Kabia round out the core of this group.

Star Spotlight

September 2026 — Randell’s record month. Five goals and an assist in four September matches: a brace in the 2–0 win over Colorado Rapids 2 on September 5, then a first-half hat trick — goals at 5, 19 and 27 minutes — in the 5–1 rout of Whitecaps FC 2 a week later, his first career MNUFC2 hat trick. Back-to-back Player of the Matchweek awards followed, then September Player of the Month, a U.S. U20 call-up, and a piece of history: his 12 regular-season goals are the most in a single season in club history.

October 16, 2026 — the playoff night that got away. The No. 5 seed Twos traveled to Carson as the league’s form team and produced the game of the quarterfinal round. Alpha Kabia hit the post in the 3rd minute; Ventura scored twice in 35 minutes anyway. Then Dieng’s penalty and diving header leveled it before half-time, Bite’s heroics carried the Twos through extra time — and a stoppage-time header deep in the extra period ended it, 3–2. A record-points season finished six minutes from a shootout.

June 2026 — Caldeira’s month. Marcus Caldeira’s 10-goal season peaked with the league’s Player of the Month award for June — one of two monthly awards won by Twos players in 2026, and a fair measure of how completely this young squad owned the second half of the season. His play also drew a Canada Men’s National Team camp call-up. The pathway is not a slogan at this club; it is a production line.

This Season (2026): The Record-Breaking Run

Start with the number that matters: 45 points — a club record. MNUFC2 finished 5th in the Western Conference as the No. 5 seed, with 12 wins, 6 draws and 10 losses, 43 goals scored and 39 conceded. It was a second straight playoff season, built the hard way after the 2025 stars graduated — and finished with the best closing run in the league: four wins and a draw in the final five, with 12 of the team’s 43 goals arriving in that stretch.

The run-in was a highlight reel. A 2–0 win away at Houston Dynamo 2. Randell’s brace in a 2–0 home win over Colorado Rapids 2. The 5–1 demolition of Whitecaps FC 2 behind Randell’s hat trick. A goalless draw at Real Monarchs. And on Decision Day, a 3–2 win over LAFC 2 at the NSC Stadium — Hector Cruz, D.J. Taylor and Jordan Adebayo-Smith on the scoresheet — to lock the No. 5 seed. In the Pick-Your-Opponent quarterfinal, No. 3 seed Ventura County FC chose the Twos — and nearly regretted it, surviving 3–2 after extra time in the game of the round. No Twos season has ever gone further on points, goals or belief. The next step — a first trophy — is now the only one left.

October 23–25, 2026 — MLS NEXT Pro Conference Semifinals. The Twos’ season is over, but the tournament they lit up rolls on: Ventura County FC, the side that edged Minnesota in the classic quarterfinal, marches into the semifinal round. The highest remaining seeds pick their opponents, so expect storylines everywhere.

October 30 – November 1, 2026 — Conference Finals. One match in each conference decides who plays for the Cup. Every remaining playoff match streams live on OneFootball.com and MLSNEXTPro.com.

November 6–8, 2026 — MLS NEXT Pro Cup. The championship match, hosted by the finalist with the highest regular-season points total. The Twos will watch this one — and spend the winter planning to be in it next year.

Biggest Rivalries — The Wars

1. Colorado Rapids 2 — the playoff nemesis. The Frontier Division rival that ended the Twos’ dream 2025 run, coming from behind to win the Western Conference Final 2–1 after Minnesota had beaten them all season. In 2026 the Twos took their measure of revenge in the playoff race: a 2–0 win at Blaine on September 5, both goals from Darius Randell, that launched the September surge. This fixture now carries real history in both directions.

2. St. Louis CITY2 — the first playoff conquest. The fellow Frontier power was the victim of the first playoff win in MNUFC2 history: a 2–0 victory on their own ground in October 2025, with an 18-year-old goalkeeper keeping a clean sheet on his birthday. The Twos backed it up in 2026 with a 5–2 home win over CITY2 at Allianz Field. When these two meet, Minnesota’s young guns have a habit of rising to it.

3. Ventura County FC — the heartbreak, fresh. The newest entry, and the rawest. LA Galaxy’s second team used its Pick-Your-Opponent privilege to choose the Twos in the 2026 quarterfinal — the clubs had never even met that season — and got the game of the round for its trouble: 0–2 down, 2–2 by half-time, and a stoppage-time header deep in extra time to settle it 3–2. Minnesota had won three of the four meetings between the clubs before that night. The rematch cannot come soon enough.

MNUFC2’s home is NSC Stadium at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota, where most 2026 home games — including the Decision Day finale against LAFC 2 — were played. A few home dates each season are staged at the first team’s Allianz Field in Saint Paul instead, so check the specific fixture before you travel.

Who is MNUFC2’s best player?
Forward Darius Randell (No. 17). The 18-year-old Homegrown scored a club-record 12 regular-season goals in 2026, won back-to-back Player of the Matchweek awards and the league’s September Player of the Month honor, and earned a United States U20 National Team call-up. Behind him, Marcus Caldeira (No. 22) scored 10 league goals and took the June Player of the Month award.

What trophies has MNUFC2 won?
None yet — honestly. The Twos reached the playoffs for the first time in 2025, going all the way to the Western Conference Final, and followed it with a club-record 45 points and another playoff run in 2026. The club’s real product is the pathway: its 2025 goalkeeper and a starting defender signed first-team MLS contracts within weeks of that Conference Final run.

How can I get tickets or watch MNUFC2?
Tickets are sold through the club at mnufc.com, with MNUFC2 home tickets listed from $10 during 2026. Every MLS NEXT Pro match streams live on MLSNEXTPro.com and OneFootball — including the rest of the 2026 playoffs and MLS NEXT Pro Cup on November 6–8, 2026.
