The Club

The New York Knicks are basketball’s most famous waiting room — and the wait is finally over. Founded in 1946 and playing at Madison Square Garden in their iconic blue and orange, the Knicks are now three-time NBA champions: 1970, 1973, and 2026 — the first title in 53 years. After half a century of heartbreak, the Garden got its parade back.

Last Season (2025-26): Champions Again

It took 53 years, but the Knicks did it. After a 53-29 regular season — 2nd in the Atlantic Division — New York caught fire in the playoffs, winning 13 straight games at one point during the run. The Eastern Conference Finals brought the sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and then the Finals: Knicks over the San Antonio Spurs, 4-1. The clincher came on June 13, 2026 — a 94-90 Game 5 win in San Antonio. They also lifted the Emirates NBA Cup along the way. Double champions. Banner season.

Best Players Right Now (2026-27 Roster)

Jalen Brunson, 30, Point Guard (#11) — The captain and the closer. His 45-point masterpiece in Game 5 sealed the Finals MVP — a Knicks record for points in a Finals game, breaking Willis Reed’s 38.

Karl-Anthony Towns, 30, Center (#32) — The All-Star big whose scoring and shooting unlocked the whole offense; the other half of the star duo.

Mikal Bridges, 30, Guard/Forward (#25) — The ironman two-way wing; part of the “Nova Knicks” trio with Brunson and Hart.

OG Anunoby, 29, Forward (#8) — Elite perimeter defender who takes the opponent’s best player every night.

Josh Hart, 31, Guard/Forward (#3) — The heartbeat: rebounds, hustle, chaos. Third member of the Nova Knicks championship trio.

Jordan Clarkson, 34, Guard — Re-signed for instant bench scoring; the former Sixth Man of the Year.

Jose Alvarado, 28, Guard — Re-signed pest off the bench; “Grand Theft Alvarado” steals possessions.

Miles McBride, 26, Guard — Young defensive guard whose role keeps growing.

Andre Drummond, 33, Center — The big offseason addition, replacing Mitchell Robinson as the backup big.

Landry Shamet, 29, Guard — Re-signed sharpshooter for bench spacing.

Tyler Kolek, 25, Guard — Young playmaker developing behind Brunson.

Head coach: Mike Brown — The championship coach returns with the entire starting five intact for the title defense.

Star Spotlight: Stories You Should Know

The 45-point closeout. With the Finals on the line in San Antonio, Jalen Brunson scored 29 of his 45 points in the second half of Game 5, willing the Knicks to a 94-90 win. He joined Michael Jordan (1998) as the only players in NBA history to score 45+ in a road Finals closeout — and took home the Bill Russell Finals MVP award.

The 29-point comeback. Game 4 at the Garden: down 29, dead in the water. The Knicks roared back for the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history — and took a stranglehold on the series. No wonder the city wouldn’t stop talking about it.

The Nova Knicks. Brunson, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart won a national championship together at Villanova — then reunited in New York to win an NBA title together. The trio combined for 27 points in Game 5 and have become the soul of this franchise.

This Season (2026-27): The Title Defense

The entire starting five is back — a rare luxury in the modern NBA — but the target is on the Garden now. Vegas set the win total at 52.5, the highest in the Eastern Conference, with +900 title odds tied for best in the East. The roster is thinner after Mitchell Robinson walked to stay under the second tax apron, and contract talks with Towns and Hart were put on hold — drama for another day. First, the banner goes up. Opening night is October 20.
